The Associate in Arts Liberal Arts: Cross-Cultural Studies degree program is designed for students who wish for a broad knowledge of liberal arts and sciences with an area of emphasis in Cross-Cultural Studies. This program is an ideal choice for students planning on transferring to the California State University or the University of California as the student can satisfy their general education requirements, plus focus on transferable course work that relates to majors at CSU or UC.

International Studies Center University of Pécs Medical School offers a complex and integrated preparatory program in English for English and American Studies that meets the language development needs of international students and facilitate their integration into the context of higher education in Hungary. International programs at Hungarian universities minimally require B2 (upper-intermediate) language level and you have to be knowledgeable in your chosen field of studies for admission.

Welcome to Mexican/Latin American Studies! We are an area of focus within the Ethnic Studies Department at Laney College and are rooted in the rich legacy of students committed to transformative education and social justice.

Indigenous studies is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry that seeks to understand the ways in which indigenous peoples worldwide, despite their incredible diversity, share a common experience of colonization. Indigenous studies is thus interested in historical contexts, political struggles, cultural expressions, and the lived ongoing effects of colonialism.

Latin American and Latino/a Studies is an interdisciplinary program that combines courses from multiple academic departments to give students a broad understanding of historical, social, and cultural aspects of Latin America and Latino/a communities.

The Ethnic Studies program is designed to assist all students in developing an understanding and appreciation of diverse peoples and cultures at a local and global level. Using comparative methodologies and honoring community-based knowledge, our programs emphasize a critical understanding of race and race relations. Students may elect among the following majors: African American Studies, Asian/Asian-American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Mexican/ Latin-American Studies or Native American Studies.

American Studies examines the American experience from the colonial period of the United States to the present. Students will study, interpret, and evaluate events, cultural products, and trends in American economic, political, and social history as well as in American architecture, art, literature, music, and religion, and they will evaluate questions to which there are multiple plausible interpretations. Students pursuing the program in American Studies will enhance their skills in critical thinking and both oral and written communication. The American Studies program prepares students for further study in English/literature, history, political science, and sociology at a four-year baccalaureate institution and provides an excellent foundation for students interested in administration, communications, law, public service, and teaching.

Asian and Asian American Studies (AAAS) provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the historical and current experiences of Asian Pacific Americans. It is an academic program and a major for the Associate Arts (AA) degree in the Ethnic Studies Department.

The African American Studies program prepares students with the comprehensive knowledge base, critical skills and social consciousness necessary to function as effective leaders in an increasingly globalized and diverse society. Our program is grounded in the decolonization and liberation projects of African Americans and their allies in the civil rights, gender, and sexual liberation movements of the 1960s that continue through the present in new forms that address new conditions. The aim of African American Studies is to support students in developing a critical consciousness and an understanding of social, political, cultural, and economic forces that have shaped the histories and current day realities of African Americans. Our studies are grounded in the principles of social justice and self-determination of oppressed communities. This program centralizes the knowledges, epistemologies and critical thinking produced by racially and sexually oppressed subjects, and we endeavor to examine the entangled intersectionality of racialized sexuality, gender, and class in complex socio- historical processes.

The Associate in Arts in Global Studies for Transfer Degree is designed for students planning to transfer into several related majors such as Global Studies, Global Politics, International Relations, International Studies, and Comparative Government. Through interdisciplinary coursework, students will gain exposure to the global scope of contemporary and historical issues.

Mexico/Latin American/Latinx Studies is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the diverse histories and cultures of the Americas. A degree in this rich field will open opportunities for you in the United States and abroad. The continuing importance of Latin America for the United States and the growing Latina/o population in the Bay Area creates a number of opportunities for students to work in government, business, teaching, community organizing, law, and a host of other related fields.

By familiarizing students with a range of methodological tools for the study of social life, while prioritizing the voices and perspectives of marginalized individuals and minoritized communities, we open up an intellectual space within which the term "ethnic" in "ethnic studies" is both critically deconstructed and strategically affirmed.

The discipline of African American Studies at the College Of Alameda will give you a deep appreciation and understanding of the impact that people of African descent have had on the ancient and modern worlds. You will draw from multiple academic disciplines, including history, sociology, communication, literature, art, dance, anthropology, and political science. Through these academic lenses, you will gain a broader understanding of the African diasporic experience in the U.S. and beyond as you will critically analyze the struggles, triumphs, and rich traditions both past and present.

The focus of African-American Studies (AFRAM) is to assist students on a path of consciousness that ultimately leads to improving their lives and family and liberating our communities. The primary goals and objectives of the program are consistent with and enhance the overall Merritt College mission and have consistently sought to help community college students develop factual information, tools of analysis, and favorable attitudes toward the African-American struggle and the liberation of African people from powerlessness, poverty, and racism.
