13 Chinese Studies Preparatory Programs

The Peking University Chinese Summer School, established in the 1980s, provides a diverse platform for international students and friends to experience Peking University, learn Chinese, and gain a deeper understanding of China.

One in five people in the world are Chinese and it is without a doubt that the most widely-spoken language in the world is Chinese. China has rapidly transformed itself from being “the factory of the world” to “the market of the world”, and is regarded as one of the most significant overseas locations. To secure human resources for these purposes, personnel with not only the ability to communicate in English but also in Chinese are constantly in demand. As China increases its presence on the world stage, it is an urgent task for Japan to engage with China and learn more about the country.

The East Asian Studies Department offers a multidisciplinary approach to understanding Japan, China, and Korea. Students in the major build language competency in Japanese or Chinese and learn to communicate effectively in English and an East Asian language. They critically interpret texts, artistic masterpieces, and cultural materials, and they develop research skills using primary sources and data.

The Contemporary China Studies Programme consists of three parts: Academic courses, a language course and an internship.

ECUST has 60 years of international student educating experience and 15 years of professional Chinese teaching experience, which is one of the institutions authorized by the Chinese Ministry of Education to provide Chinese government scholarships for international Chinese Language students. Based on the principle of cultivating cross-cultural communicative competence, guided by the passing rate of HSK examination, and through the systematic training of listening, speaking, reading and writing, the comprehensive ability of international students in the Chinese language is comprehensively improved.

Summer and winter short-term programs program feature: Offering certificates of completion and transcripts at the end of the program; Optimized curriculum focusing on improving oral Chinese; Cultural experience: Chinese calligraphy, martial arts, paper cutting and Chinese painting, etc.; Language practice: cultural excursions in or around the city in according with the project demand. Customized short-term program for groups program feature: East China University of Technology provides international students group (over 15 people) with short-term customized teaching services all over a year. Lectures, activities and study programs will be designed in accordance with students’ requirements and time. Lectures on Chinese culture and history or other topics both in Chinese and English. Visits to famous enterprises, manufacturing companies, museums, university labs, and tourist locations, etc.

At Grinnell, Chinese is an interdisciplinary major that explores the complex interaction between literary, philosophical, aesthetic, religious, political, and other important spheres of human life in China. Emphasis is placed not only on the diversity and uniqueness of Chinese civilization but also on its contributions to humanity and its heuristic values to the understanding of Western cultural traditions.

We will explore the main styles of Chinese art and artistic philosophy through paintings and sculptures. Zen will take the students through thousands of years of development in Chinese art. Finally, he will showcase some of his artwork and demonstrate the relevancy and potency of this ancient art form. Zen is a polymath renaissance man specializing in anything challenging and worthwhile. His art has won many awards and exhibited in galleries and public spaces in Canada and the USA. His films have premiered in Toronto and other communities in Ontario. He is a professional engineer with an MBA and a film diploma from Vancouver Film Board.

Chinese Language & Culture Immersion in Taiwan is an intense program designed by the Language Center in NCU. The curriculum includes listening, speaking, reading and writing and we also offer some tutorial hours and field trips for the participants to get to know about Taiwan culture and be able to practice what they learn in the real world.
