This program provides students with the technical knowledge and skill of reading and interpreting building codes. Understanding materials used to meet the demands of the codes and the documentation needed to comply with inspections taking place during construction, remodeling, or maintenance of structures. With these new skills, students will obtain entry-level employment as an inspector or an inspector’s helper in new construction, remodeling construction, or operation of an existing building.

This course is aimed at learners who either want to progress onto the Extended Diploma in CBE (full-time) or are currently working as trainees, construction technicians or trade persons in the construction, civil engineering and building services engineering sector and waiting to progress to the HNC in Building or Building Services Engineering.

Building services engineering includes all aspects needed to make buildings work for humans and includes the lighting, heating and ventilation, lifts and escalators, acoustics, plumbing, power supply and energy management systems, plus the security and safety systems. This course produces highly-skilled assistant building services engineering technicians with the skills, professional competencies and capabilities to become successful building services designers across a range of projects.

TMCC Building Construction Technology Program’s goal is to provide training to prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed in the building construction industry. Students will enhance their technical skills through task-oriented specific skills in carpentry. Students will practice their skills by building a residential home as a class project. Students will enhance their problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, and leadership skills with business courses in science, communications, management, computer technology courses, and general education courses. Students will learn service-learning skills and leadership skills through student organization involvement, classroom discussions, and demonstrations. The Building Construction Technology – Entrepreneur Emphasis provides students with the skills and knowledge to own or manage a business.
