UFSC was the first university in the state of Santa Catarina to offer an undergraduate degree in Accounting Science. With a tradition of more than four decades, the program is ranked among the best in Brazil, according to the Guia do Estudante magazine. Since the early stages, the student deals with theoretical concepts in courses such as General Accounting, Tax Accounting, Management Accounting, Public Accounting, Business Games and Tax Law. Through the elective courses, students can opt for more specific topics such as Rural Accounting, Industrial Accounting and Social Security Accounting.

Foundation Art & Design is an intensive one-year course designed for students who wish to enter British Baccalaureate courses but do not have the corresponding professional training and/or work experience in art and design. Classes give a broad scope of art and design and its many forms and the need for students to explore the available options before really understanding what their strongest points are. If the student does not have a portfolio or creation techniques, we recommend the Pre-Foundation course.

A unique opportunity to get closer to the universe of computer graphics and acquire general knowledge in its various segments such as: Animation, Concept Art, Special Effects (VFX), Games and Virtual Reality (VR). Learning takes place during the development of a series of projects, that is, the student will “learn by doing”, in a 100% practical and interdisciplinary way. The program was created for the student who is interested in the subject, but has little or no experience and would like to become a professional in the area or change careers.

Theory and practice are combined in the curriculum to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of organizational structures and their problems. The courses aim at encouraging entrepreneurship and the ability to analyze social transformations. In the job market, the place of the administrator is guaranteed in the most diverse areas. Any organization, whatever its size and complexity (NGOs, associations or multinational corporations), needs qualified professionals for business management. UFSC has agreements with more than 600 organizations which offer internship positions to students and help them prepare for their future careers. Many of them are hired by the same companies after the internship period. Students can also take part in Ação Júnior, a company managed by themselves under faculty guidance, which advises different organizations.

UFSC Architecture and Urbanism Program enables professionals to design, plan and construct buildings and open spaces, and to propose the organization of architectural, urban and regional spaces. The architect and urban planner can work in different scales, from urban and regional planning (master planning, land division, etc.), to the design and construction of city areas, buildings and open spaces (urban, landscape and architectural), as well as with the design of objects.

The automation of production activities, whether in agriculture, industry or in the service sector, is one of the main requirements for the economic development of the country and for its effective participation in the international market. The need for qualified professionals that have an interdisciplinary vision – indispensible to the automation processes – , and are able to use the new computer technologies adequately has led UFSC to create the pioneer Automation and Control Engineering program in 1990.

UFSC Biological Sciences Program is a broad-ranging degree that provides students with knowledge of various biological areas, such as Cell Biology, Embryology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Botany, Physiology, Parasitology, Morphology, Ecology, Zoology, Microbiology, Immunology and Pharmacology. The student can also choose to pursue a teaching degree – in this case, the graduate will be able to work as a teacher in primary and secondary schools.

The Civil Engineering Program enables students to provide technical, advisory and planning services in Civil Construction, Structures, Geodetic Sciences, Geotechnics and Transportation. The Civil Engineer works in a wide range of activities, from the development of projects to the construction of buildings, roads, dams, bridges, airports, urban infrastructure, slope stability, hydraulic engineering and sanitation.

The program follows an open organizational structure that allows flexibility among the different areas of design specialization. In this structure, students choose their own study paths according to their skills and abilities – which are often revealed during the course of their studies. The Design Project modules are responsible for guiding their academic pathway. Each Design Project course must be taken together with three other courses which, combined together, will meet its parallel prerequisites (see figure 1). The prerequisite courses give support to the development of the project and their instructors are responsible for the conduction, organization and evaluation of the student’s project, which should be based upon the content of all courses for the knowledge to be fully achieved.

UFSC Geography Program offers two types of degrees: an undergraduate degree that prepares for recognition activities, surveys, geo-economic and physico-geographical studies, and other tasks in the general and specific fields of Geography, and an undergraduate teaching degree that prepares students for a career in primary and secondary school teaching. The program belongs to the Department of Geosciences at the School of Human Sciences and Philosophy. It is linked to five specific areas of this department: physical geography, human geography, cartography, geology and oceanography.

The Information Science Program aims to train entrepreneurial professionals to identify, develop and implement innovative, integrated and collaborative solutions, human and non-human, in various technical formats, in order to solve real information problems. Information Science graduates should have an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams in the identification, development and implementation of integrated and collaborative solutions, human and non-human, in various technical formats, in order to solve real information problems.
