The Associate Degree in Animal Science is designed for the feed, animal nutrition, dairy, farm management, and farm supply areas of agriculture. You will learn about animal science, artificial insemination, sire selection, animal nutrition and ration balancing, record keeping, and herd health.

The Animal Science Associates Degree focuses on animal behavior, husbandry, production, and services which; are a critical part of animal agriculture and related industries. The curriculum provides a combination of technical knowledge and practical skills utilizing a hands-on approach to instruction.

Launch your future in the livestock industry with Lakeland’s Diploma in Animal Science Technology: Livestock Science Major. Our courses are species-specific. You’ll choose between beef and dairy production for your in-depth study, but you’ll also learn about bison, horses and other livestock.

The Diploma in Animal Science Technology Diploma: Beef Science Major will make you go beyond the classroom and into the real world, from pasture to plate. You’ll study commercial and purebred cow/calf operations as well as feedlots.  And, you’ll go through the complete production cycle.

The Diploma in Animal Science Technology Diploma: Dairy Science Major has activities ranging from practical herd management to implementing new technologies. You’ll graduate armed with the knowledge and tools to return to the farm or to make your mark in another area of the dairy sector.

Animal sciences offers a sound education in science and prepares students for scientific careers in animal agriculture. Biotechnological industries seek animal science graduates, frequently offering unprecedented opportunities. In addition, students are prepared for graduate study in specialized fields of animal genetics, nutrition, physiology, food science, or management.

From farm animals to domesticated pets, animals are highly integrated into our different environments and must be taken care of to maintain a proper life balance. Through the Department of Animal Sciences, students can earn an Animal Health Technology (AHT) Diploma and prepare for fulfilling careers working with and caring for animals. As part of a collaborative partnership with the University of Lethbridge, AHT Diploma graduates can transfer into a Post-Diploma Bachelor of Arts or Post-Diploma Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Studies) program, provided they have a 2.5 grade point average or higher.

The animal scientist graduated from UFSC is prepared for a career in planning and technical management of animal production systems – with emphasis on processes aimed at obtaining quality products, with economic value added and market value, while respecting animal welfare and the environment. Graduates should be agents of development, entrepreneurs, generators and diffusers of technologies concerning the raising, improvement, management, nutrition, behavior, welfare and health prophylaxis of different species of livestock.

The Extended FdSc Animal Science with Management programme includes an introductory year with academic study modules plus a work experience element to help you develop strong vocational and general academic study skills alongside upskilling your current knowledge around animal sciences and specialist knowledge. This introductory year will get you ready for level 4 study with in the animal sector and is ideal for career changers, applicants who are just getting started in the animal sector or if applicants do not meet the entry requirements for the FdSc programme.

Diploma in Animal Science Technology: Equine Major Our equine sciences program is more than learning to ride. It's learning the critical components of producing, training and marketing horses. In other words, how to run a successful equine business.

The FdSc Animal Science with Management programme will develop your practical skills and knowledge required to be successful in a range of animal management industries. Areas relating to management of animals, ecology, conservation, behaviour and training of animals will be covered as part of the FdSc in Animal Science with Management. There is an emphasis on developing a range of skills required in employment. This programme offers students the opportunity to study a range of animals, including livestock, equine, captive animals and domestic pets.

Animal Studies is an emerging field that builds on scholarship in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences to investigate past and present relations between human and non-human animals, the representation of those relations, their ethical implications and their social, political, and ecological effects in and on the world.

Students completing this program will have the basic animal husbandry skills required for entry-level employment in the livestock industry in areas such as livestock herdsman, animal trainer, livestock fitter, brand inspector, or in occupations within the food animal industry.
