The master's program aims to deepen technological and scientific knowledge in engineering physics. The research profile promotes the development of the scientific component of the candidate's training through the deepening of knowledge and initiation into research. The research master's program in engineering physics leads to obtaining the degree of Master of Applied Sciences (M.Sc.A.).

A solid background in physics paves the way for any industry that uses scientific reasoning and experimentation for decision making. Our courses focus on the development in understanding, problem-solving, collecting experimental data, and relating physics to local and global issues. Introductory physics, including Newtonian mechanics, gravitation, electricity, and optics. This course is designed for non-science students. Not open to students with credit for Physics 12 or equivalent. Instructors and students use a wide variety of active learning methods including class discussions, problem solving, presentations, and experiments using physical objects and computers.

Students will learn to see the world through the “eyes” of physics and to reason as a physicist does. In the process, they will learn how to apply physics principles to a wide range of problems. The course requires that the students have a good background in mathematics. Work in Physics 11 includes the development of following competencies: questioning and predicting, planning and conducting, processing and analyzing data and information, evaluating, applying and innovating and communicating.

This Physics program is designed to provide a broad view of the discipline and allows for customization and flexibility. Available in both the BSc General program and the BSc / BEd Combined program, this major/minor includes courses from astronomy, geophysics, mathematical physics, and physics.

Students benefit from close working relationships with their advisors. These relationships help to facilitate students' research in Condensed Matter & Optical Physics (semiconductor, surface science, soft-condensed matter, and fibre optics). Our collaboration with the medical physics staff at the Regional Cancer Centre also provides a number of applicable research opportunities with Medical Physics professionals.
