The mission of the Thiel College Master of Science in Physician Assistant program is to graduate physician assistants who have the disciplinary knowledge and skills, clinical preparation, and dispositions to provide excellent patient care and serve the needs of their community.

The Physician Assistant program at Thiel College features two distinct paths to earning a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies: Pathway 1 - Highly motivated high school seniors can enroll in our accelerated five-year program. Students will earn a traditional four-year bachelor’s degree in Health Systems and continue at Thiel for a fifth year to complete the master’s degree program. Please refer to the Health systems major for additional information regarding the undergraduate degree. Pathway 2 – Students who have already completed a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and wish to attain a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Thiel College should explore our 27-month post-baccalaureate program.

The Physician Associate MSc is taught by UK trained PAs, doctors, pharmacists, nurses, midwives and paramedics. You learn from the multidisciplinary team that you will work with in the future. It equips you with the skills to take a medical history, perform physical examinations, request and interpret investigations, diagnose and develop treatment and management plans.

Physician Assistants (PA's) practice with doctors across all medical disciplines. You'll find them in nearly any specialty you can think of: surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, emergency medicine, and psychiatry. PA is also a career on the rise: Every year for the last decade, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted a 30 percent growth in the field.

The Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree is a 24-month program which begins in July is divided into didactic and clinical sections. The didactic portion of the program will include a combination of basic science courses and laboratories as well as classes and laboratories in the applied medical sciences.

This pathway consists of the courses required for a major in biology with a minor in chemistry, along with defined upper-level electives focused on building a solid foundation for PA school.

The Medical Assisting curriculum prepares multi-skilled health care professionals to perform clinical, laboratory, and administrative procedures. Course work includes instruction in assisting with clinical examinations and treatments.
