In the Photography program, you will learn skills from darkroom to digital photography. Unlike some other photography programs, which focus on commercial photography, OCAD U’s Photography program is more artistic and experimental. The program emphasizes your artistic vision while encouraging you to explore a broad range of issues and styles. In the upper-year levels, you’ll gain real-world experience through a placement in the arts community or through an exhibition of your photographs.

Compelling imagery carries much of the emotional power in today’s visual media, both print and electronic. This imagery is most commonly photographic. Students in the Digital Photography diploma program must be creative, imaginative, and attentive to detail as they prepare to seek entry-level employment in the field upon graduation.

OCAD University has some of the best photography facilities in Canada and one of few schools with both a colour and black and white darkroom.. You will benefit from studying photography at Canada's largest art, design and media university, where you will select electives from a wide range of creative areas. These include electives in Sculpture/Installation, Printmaking and Drawing & Painting, among many others.

Hone your skills in Canada’s most prestigious photography program, working in analogue and digital formats, with still, moving and computer-generated imagery and in creative, documentary and professional fields. In this hands-on program, you can pursue the Integrated Digital option and have access to one of North America’s largest photo production facilities. The PROFESSIONAL BACHELOR SDS® PHOTOGRAPHY is a European diploma issued by INSHED. The training allows you to be professionally operational from the start of your career and to benefit from good employability, even beyond your country of origin.

This course is designed to empower new photographers to level up from shooting in Automatic Mode to Manual Mode. Over the course of 8 weeks (held on Thursdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm), participants will learn what terms like ISO, Shutter, and Aperture mean, and how these settings can elevate their images. Participants will also learn about different types of cameras, lenses and more. By the end of the course, everyone will be able to explain what type of photography their “eye” lies in, and feel confident they’ve found the right path to achieve the types of images they’re interested in creating.

Through the use of innovative teaching practices, custom-designed labs, and the use of real-world projects, Graphic Design students will be guided through the intricacies of creating portfolio projects that will enable them to find a suitable career path in the new media industry. By keeping a close eye on the industry and feedback from industry-related companies and professionals, the Graphic Design curriculum is constantly evolving to allow students to enter the workforce running.

In this four-class course, participants will be introduced to basic digital camera operation, its features, and functions with the goal of taking better quality photos. Topics will include (but are not limited to): The different focus modes, different exposure modes, Shutter Speeds and Lens Apertures (what they are, what they do, how and why to change them up), ISO, (the camera's sensitivity to light) Colour Balance (What it is and when to take advantage of it), proper handling technique, how to compose a image, what to include, what to leave out and what went wrong in the past.
