Every human being has various questions. What is the meaning of being alive, what is love in the first place, where is the standard of justice, why humans die, what beauty and art bring to us ... In the Department of Philosophy, while learning the process that our predecessors have thought about such questions, we will make a logical decision and deepen our own thoughts. In addition to the knowledge and practical skills that are familiar to society, we aim to acquire the culture (liberal arts) for women to live truly beautifully and prosperously as human beings, and to hone their intellect and sensibility to see the essence of the problem.

Philosophy is not a subject studied in solitude. It is important to understand how others think about specific subjects (understanding others) during the course of interaction with others in order to find one’s own thoughts. Diverse philosophical approaches are used in the four-year course of study to help students understand their own thoughts and actions (self-understanding).

Although the economy and science and technology have developed wonderfully, it is a world that can not be realized that each and every human being became happy. Rather, the sum of people weakened, the number of people who suffered from the heart has increased, and the purpose of life is difficult to see. Love is cold, hope is getting uncertain. Even religion is an era that can be seen with stinging eyes.

The aim of this major in Liberal Arts education is not necessarily to educate specialists. It is to critically scrutinize principles associated with notions such as "meaning" and "value" that we as humans all possess, in order to cultivate the ability to develop ideas from a reliable foundation. The study of philosophy and religion invokes fundamental questions concerning humanity and life and constitutes the core of a Liberal Arts education that aims to cultivate reverent and independent individuals.
