This program is designed for students who wish to pursue an advanced degree in the broad area of urban studies, with research focusing on urban policy and governance, urban environment and resource management, urban data and analytics, environmental sustainability, and urban sustainability. It aims to strengthen students’ knowledge in related subjects and train them to conduct interdisciplinary analysis and independent research, with critical and creative capability.

DLitt et Phil (Urban Studies) is an advanced level of study in which a candidate has to conduct independent research and produce a thesis that demonstrates a contribution to knowledge in the field.

In urban studies, you will take a look at the social issues of the day, study the city in all its dimensions. Whether it is to better understand the territory as a place of habitat, work, and mobility, as a management body or space for individual, collective, and community activities, you will produce knowledge that will guide action on the territory.

By 2050, two out of every three people are likely to be living in cities or other urban centres, and most of the increase is expected to be highly-concentrated in a handful of countries, including China. Rapid urbanization and growth of cities call for high-quality public services and effective governance to make urban places more livable. The PhD in Anthropic Environments Sciences is an interdepartmental and multidisciplinary program offered by the Center for Design and Construction Sciences, with the participation of the Departments of Construction and Structures, Habitat Design, Geotechnics and Hydraulics, as well as Theory and Methods . This postgraduate course offers greater flexibility as it is a tutorial system, which strengthens research activities.
