Research Degrees (MPhil/PhD) in Finance and Management study towards the University of London PhD. To be considered for the PhD programme in finance or management students must already have completed a good Masters's degree in a relevant discipline and been awarded high grades. They must also submit an initial research proposal that demonstrates an aptitude for academic research.

PhD by research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis. The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the only doctoral degree that can be achieved through distance learning. The main requirement for a PhD online through distance learning is to present and discuss a thesis of at least 100 pages for review and evaluation by an academic committee at Selinus University. A thesis for this research program must explore human societies of the past using their material remains and must implement the development of archaeology as a scientific discipline. Archaeological methods and theories should be explained using case studies from the continents of Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe and the Americas. The dissertation should include the latest developments in this field and present theories and practices found in scientific reality concerning the latest archaeological discoveries.

The Law Research Degree (PhD) programme run by the School of Law accepts candidates for research work leading to a PhD. The central feature of PhD work is the close relationship between the doctoral candidate and his or her supervisor, in which they meet regularly and consult closely. This relationship is supported and strengthened in various ways.

In MPhil/PhD Economics students whose qualifications indicate that they are able to pursue independent research may be accepted to read for a research degree (MPhil/PhD) in Economics. Normally a high-level master's degree in Economics or equivalent is a prerequisite.

The PhD in Development Economics is a research degree offered by the Department of Economics and is also part of the PhD pathway, 'International Development', within the Bloomsbury Doctoral Training Partnership. The latter forms one of the few Centres recognised by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), thereby receiving financial support, and especially individual grants, for MSc and PhD students.

This is the only programme in the University of London in which students can include creative work and an arts-based context of their practice within the distinctive field of arts and creative technologies.
