University of Lodz Doctoral School of Social Sciences provides its doctoral students with a Doctoral Supervisor’s care and helps to obtain the knowledge necessary to obtain a PhD degree in Social Sciences. The study curriculum makes it possible for a doctoral student to gain advanced level qualifications pertaining not only to the implementation of the doctoral dissertation but also to professional development (improvement of research workshop and improvement of teaching qualifications) as well as personal development (soft skills).

The Economic Sociology, Organisation and Labour (ESOL) PhD course aims to train PhDs with high-level skills from different disciplinary backgrounds that are essential to the study, management and regulation of economic, organisational and labour phenomena. The training is characterised by a strongly interdisciplinary approach, in which economic sociology is complemented by the contributions of labour law, economic-statistical and organisational-business disciplines, and behavioural sciences.

The Sociology and Methodology of Social Research doctoral programme offers a theoretical-analytical and technical-methodological preparation rooted in an excellent tradition of international research on empirical sociology. It aims to train researchers in the analysis of current processes of cultural and social change based on the close integration of theory and empirical research. The programme aims to provide a solid theoretical-conceptual preparation along with mastery of the most up-to-date research methodologies and techniques, both quantitative and qualitative.

PhD by research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis. The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the only doctoral degree that can be achieved through distance learning. The main requirement for a PhD online through distance learning is to present and discuss a thesis of at least 100 pages for review and evaluation by an academic committee at Selinus University. Sociology is the systematic study of human society. DLitt et Phil Sociology is an advanced level of study in which a candidate has to conduct independent research and produce a thesis that demonstrates a contribution to knowledge in the field. The Degree is assessed on the basis of the thesis only and the candidate has to satisfy the Department of Sociology and the Faculty of Humanities that the thesis is his or her own unaided work. Upon submission of the final thesis, he or she has to give an undertaking that it has not been submitted to any other institution for examination and the granting of a qualification.

The Ph.D. study program Sociology is focused on scientific inquiry, independent creative work, and deepening of theoretical knowledge. The aim of this program is to prepare the students for a scientific career and teaching in the field of basic and applied research.
