British and American Studies are an essential part of European philological education in the current era of globalization. Implementation of this field of study in the Ph.D. form of study pursues the requirement to make a fundamental contribution to strengthening the theoretical and methodological basis of research and research proper in linguistic and literary disciplines as well as British and American realia and their teaching at a higher education institution. It makes a fundamental contribution to the education of new experts and thus maintains the continuity of this research in Slovakia. Our graduates can work as teachers, translators, interpreters, linguists, employees of travel offices and agencies, text proofreaders, editors, etc.

The study program Condensed Matter Physics focuses on the predominantly experimental investigation of structural, transport and magnetic properties of various solid objects involving man-made structures and nanosystems attractive for studying fundamental physical phenomena and those with high application potential.

The Ph.D. program in Theoretical Physics covers the research of physical properties of solid-state systems, phase transitions and critical phenomena in diverse magnetic systems, theoretical investigation of skyrmions, ab initio study of electron structures of new functional materials, investigation of developed turbulence, percolation phenomena and chemical interactions, applications of statistical mechanics in geostatistics and data reconstruction.

Our doctoral program in Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing (GIS & RS) links to the research and education expertise of the Institute of Geography, Faculty of Science, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The academic personnel and technology infrastructure of the Institute of Geography provides very favorable conditions to support the GIS & RS study. The ongoing and past research projects and published results provide evidence of our know-how and its scientific relevance.

The Ph.D. program Discrete Mathematics is a research-based study program with an emphasis on two areas. Graph theory direction concentrates mainly on chromatic graph theory, the structure of graphs, topological graph theory, cycles in graphs, graph labelings, graph algorithms and applications of graph theory. The algebraic branch deals with universal algebras, lattices, and ordered structures.

Modern genetics is an essential and fundamental part of the majority of biological disciplines with a great impact on medicine, agriculture, food or pharmaceutical industries. Our Ph.D. program in Genetics is based on a systems-level understanding of biological processes and their regulation from cells and individuals to populations with an accent on evolutionary aspects.
