The Ph.D. Economic and Organizational Sociology was established by the Technical University of Lisbon in 1991 and adapted to the European Higher Education Area in 2009.

The PhD program in Finance at Iscte is a rigorous program designed to train students to produce high quality research. This PhD Program in Emotion Psychology (the study of affective processes such as emotions, mood, feelings and its relation to attention, memory, decision, reasoning, creativity) is innovative and unique in Europe and combines knowledge brought by Psychology and several other fields of Science to provide an updated solid theoretical and methodological background in the study of emotional processes. It meets the exponentially growing interest of the last couple of decades in Emotion after the findings that emotion is key to decision-making and that affective processes in the brain create an implicit layer of influence on the most varied aspects of human mental activity, behaviour, and creations. A strong branch of research is focusing on emotion regulation and positive emotions, forming a strong basis for applied interventions towards psychological well-being and health as well as the betterment of the workplace, education, and human developmental contexts.

The PhD is a four-year program consisting of one and a half year of coursework followed by two and a half years of research. In the first year of the program, the focus is on providing the foundations for successful research. In the first semester of the second year students choose three additional courses in field subjects (or extra courses in the core subjects), which should be closely related to their research interests. In the second semester of the second year and in the third and fourth years, students are expected to develop their research projects and write a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty member.

NOVA School of Law’s 3rd Cycle Programme in Law is a four-year program leading to a Ph.D. degree in Law. The Programme comprises a taught component (over three semesters) where advanced legal studies are carried out with an interdisciplinary focus.
