Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – Law and Politics will enable students to become efficiently equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge to advance in international organizations, and public and private sectors, and achieve positive results when operating in executive positions.

We accept students into the Department of Politics and International Relations on the basis of a match between your proposed research and the current research interests of a potential supervisor as well as an assessment of qualifications and suitability for a research degree.

Joint doctoral studies with Vytautas Magnus University, Klaipėda University, General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (coordinating institution: Vytautas Magnus University).

An acceptable level of proficiency in English or Afrikaans is required.

The PhD in Politics is a fully-funded program, providing PhD candidates with scholarships for four years of research and study. Every PhD researcher will receive supervision from two scholars with expertise in the field, at least one of whom is drawn from among the internationally renowned members of the Academic Board of the program.

The UC Santa Cruz Politics Department Faculty provides a distinctive mix of senior scholars whose work has led the field toward interdisciplinary and engaged research, and junior scholars whose work represents the diverse cutting-edge of U.S. and international political research.
