17 Molecular Medicine PhD Degree Programs

The program aims to continue with the quality training of researchers in the field of the molecular bases of human diseases. Research in human health is a priority axis of the different knowledge management and innovation programs, both at the regional, state and European level.

The San Raffaele University, top-ranked among the research universities in Italy, offers a PhD program aimed to provide excellent guidance, support and training to graduate students interested in understanding the molecular processes underlying human diseases and in designing new approaches for their treatment.

Experimental medicine develops and applies technology and biological models for studying pathogenic mechanisms in human disease. It involves various disciplines (biochemistry, biology, molecular biology, anatomy, physiology, pathology, immunology, genetics and microbiology/virology) that provide a rapidly growing understanding of the mechanisms that enable the development of pathological processes. The course aims to acquaint students with the technologies and research methodologies in the area of biomedicine and biotechnology based on in vitro and in vivo experimental models and '-omic' approaches, and on their application to the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of human disease.

Advancements in genetics and genomics have spurred the emergence of Precision Medicine, which revolutionizes traditional medical approaches by utilizing vast molecular data for personalized disease diagnosis and treatment. The PhD in National PhD in Systems Medicine aims to equip professionals with interdisciplinary skills in biomedical sciences, preparing them to address precision medicine challenges through technological strategies and multidisciplinary approaches.

Homologous and heterogeneous gene expression and its regulation, gene manipulation industrial strain of microorganisms, degree of ribosomal biosynthesis of proteins. Influence of application spheres of medicine (hereditary and infectious diseases, vaccines, new drugs), agriculture (transgenic organisms, and plant and animal breeding), ecology, and biotechnology. The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. This program of study is offered without any specialization.

The purpose of the study program is to provide the students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in various areas of molecular and cell biology, genetics, and virology, as well as to familiarize them with modern methodical and technical approaches utilized in these scientific fields and with the possibilities of such approaches for problem-solving in current biological and biomedical science (including interdisciplinary research). The main scope of the program can be characterized as the study of biological processes at molecular and cell levels, focusing particularly on complex interactions between cells and environment or between various information macromolecules (DNA, RNA, proteins) and using the most modern approaches of molecular biology and bioinformatics. The program is carried out without any specialization.

The Pharmacological Biomolecular Sciences, Experimental and Clinical doctoral program trains biomedical experts in modern pharmacological research through multidisciplinary approaches. It encompasses basic research, pharmacological-toxicological studies, innovative drug development systems, and technical-scientific collaboration. Students develop competencies for translating discoveries into clinical practice, benefiting public health and socio-economics.

The study program Medical Biophysics is an interdisciplinary branch of science that employs virtually all biological fields and is focused on scientific study and independent research activities in interdisciplinary settings, from natural science up to clinical medical work. This branch of science originated from the need to separate medical applications observing interactions of physical fields and radiation with a living organism from the bulk of technological and biological disciplines. The goal of the study of Medical Biophysics is understanding basic biological processes for development in innovative methods and/or devices for clinical application in diagnosis and therapy. Doctorands, further to their Master's education, are recruited for scientific and research projects at the training institutions and motivated by their Supervising Tutors to solve scientific and research problems of their own. In keeping with the recent developments, the program Medical Biophysics is also focused on the interconnection of the studies with the needs of clinical practice.
