7 Materials Science PhD Degree Programs in Czech Republic

This program is based on the cooperation of two universities and one research institute - Brno University of Technology, Masaryk University and the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

PhD in Material Science and Engineering The doctoral program „Material Science and Engineering“ is a modern interdisciplinary program. It is built on a deep knowledge of the structure of conventional and special materials, their utility properties, and the mechanisms of their degradation. It includes the field of the evaluation of mechanical and physical properties, the diagnostics of the chemical constitution and material structure, including the diagnostics of defects in materials as well as their recycling.

The doctoral study programme Technologies and Materials is focused on independent scientific and research projects in the field of engineering technology. Its aim is to produce highly-educated and creative graduates capable of taking part in scientific, research, and professional activities in the studied field.

Applied Sciences in Engineering is a PhD programme focused on the research of problems in the boundary between engineering and natural sciences. The scope of the PhD thesis falls into one or more of the following areas: Computer Simulations, Physics and optics, and Material engineering.

The aim of the doctoral study program "Thermal Engineering and Fuels in Industry" is the scientific education of professionals who can creatively solve scientific research problems in the field of thermal engineering, energy, fuel chemistry, and ceramic materials, especially for high temperatures and material and energy utilization of waste.

Graduates of this PhD programme are provided with deep knowledge in their specialization, which enables creative and scientific work. They will develop communicative skills and they can clearly express their ideas and opinions. They are familiar with the methodology of processing information.

Graduates from the follow-up master's degree program may be admitted to study on a doctoral degree program in materials, technology, quality, or metrology. This study is the third, highest level of university study, is in full-time or combined form and the standard study period is 4 years. Graduates from doctoral study programs are awarded the academic title of Doctor, abbreviated to Ph.D. after their name.
