20 Information Systems PhD Degree Programs

Informatics (Information Systems) is a multidisciplinary subject, where information, information systems, and their integration into the organisation are studied for the benefit of the entire system (individual, organisation, and community).

The Ph.D. in Computing and Information Systems program is a unique, multidisciplinary program of study that prepares you to develop new information systems, analyze evolving technologies and interpret the relationship between technology and organizations.

The program addresses open topics in software system analysis, development, and application. In both theoretical and practical terms, it has foundations in the research of software architectures, programming languages, and notations, together with tools and methods for software analysis and construction. These are studied both in general terms and in the context of important software system classes such as information systems, or distributed or parallel systems. On the creative side, the program combines projects of basic and applied research, often with strong experimental aspects, with outputs including research prototypes alongside traditional publications. The program does not contain specializations.

The doctoral program in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms, started in the academic year 2008/2009, aims to enable students to enhance knowledge at a doctoral level in the area of Communication and information Sciences on scenarios of technological mediation, and also provide skill development and training as independent researchers. The doctoral program is a strategic partnership on research between the UNiversities of Aveiro and Porto following the creation, in 2007, of the joint research unit DIGIMEDIA

The doctoral program primarily aims at graduates from teacher preparation programs in mathematics and computer science, enabling them to deepen their knowledge from master's programs and take part in ongoing research. The program focuses on elementary mathematics and computer science, their history, as well as teaching. In elementary mathematics and computer science, the emphasis is placed on topics that connect and extend both high-school and university curricula. In history, attention is paid especially to the 19th and 20th centuries, Czech mathematics and computer science. History is also closely related to problems of teaching, as the progress of science depends on the transfer of knowledge from teachers to students, which is supported by textbooks.
