21 Information Systems PhD Degree Programs

Informatics (Information Systems) is a multidisciplinary subject, where information, information systems, and their integration into the organisation are studied for the benefit of the entire system (individual, organisation, and community).

The Doctor of Information Systems (D.Sc) objective is to prepare students for research or teaching positions in the academic community so that they can conduct or contribute to research in their chosen areas of study.

Research students have the opportunity to present their research work at regional and global conferences. In addition, they get the opportunity to collaborate with faculty on numerous publications in top academic journals. The research students in the PhD programme are exposed to classroom teaching opportunities to prepare them for an academic career.

The research thesis of this PhD programme should provide a basis for understanding, implementation and rational decision making on contemporary networking technologies. Analyze contemporary terminology, concepts, technologies and devices used in the Internet industry. It should develop both intentional and accidental threats and threats to computer mainframe systems and networks. It should also show how to detect and prevent these threats and how to minimise potential losses caused by fraud and/or human error.

The doctoral program in Information and Communication in Digital Platforms, started in the academic year 2008/2009, aims to enable students to enhance knowledge at a doctoral level in the area of Communication and information Sciences on scenarios of technological mediation, and also provide skill development and training as independent researchers. The doctoral program is a strategic partnership on research between the UNiversities of Aveiro and Porto following the creation, in 2007, of the joint research unit DIGIMEDIA
