The Centre for Environmental Studies is a graduate school for multidisciplinary training and research focusing on the environment. Training aims to satisfy the need for environmental professionals for implementing current environmental legislation as well as industry-driven environmental management systems.

The International PhD Program in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI) combines expertise from many disciplines in the agro-environmental field aimed at training researchers, enabling them to carry out qualified scientific activities in the field of plant and animal production, considering also aspects of eco-sustainability, climate change and recovery of polluted and degraded areas in order to restore their agricultural cultivation capabilities.

The primary aim in our doctoral school is to train scientists who can continue their creative scientific work related to leading fields of chemistry and environmental sciences after completion of their MSc studies. The doctoral school was established in 2000 as the highest level of education in chemistry and environmental sciences at the University of Pannonia. Since then, more than 125 degrees have been granted.

This environmental science program studies the physical, chemical, and biological processes that take place on Earth, as well as the social, political, and cultural processes that impact the planet.

The purpose of the Ph.D. in Environmental Management is to provide qualifying students with an in-depth understanding and integrated knowledge of advanced applicable theory in the field of specialization.

The NTU ASE PhD program is 4 years. Besides working on their research, students from the AY2020 Sem 1 intake onwards are required to complete 18 Academic Units of classes during their PhD, which roughly translates to around six courses. After completing a qualifying examination in their third semester, they focus on completing their doctoral project, working closely with a faculty advisor. 

The Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies, which offers programs leading to Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Desert Studies, and Hydrology & Water Technologies. These multi-disciplinary research areas have emerged in response to the lack of science-based responses to the urgent needs of humanity.

We offer PhD and MS degrees in 6 programs: Atmospheric Sciences, Marine Biology & Ecology, Environmental Science & Policy, Marine Geosciences, Meteorology & Physical Oceanography, and Ocean Sciences. We offer highly competitive stipend rates, tuition, and health insurance coverage for our incoming PhD students as part of a fully-funded 5-year Graduate Assistantship. Finally, as part of our revitalized connections across colleges and to take advantage of our unique research facilities, we offer an MS degree in both Ocean Engineering and Sustainable Business. The Doctorate of Environmental Science (BS) program helps students develop practical skills and knowledge required to critically evaluate environmental problems and issues, and provide applied solutions.

The Environmental Sciences and Policy Doctoral Program* provides a unique opportunity to pursue fundamental and applied research to address some of the most urgent environmental challenges in the world. Our graduates emerge from the Program with a broad understanding of diverse approaches to environmental problems, extensive practical research experience, professional networks and analytical and practical thinking skills with a commitment and capacity to addressing environmental challenges.

The Doctoral Program in Environmental Science and Engineering at the UA aims to produce highly trained professionals who are qualified to carry out autonomous research in the field of Environmental Science and Engineering, and thus respond to the recruitment needs of the academic and business sectors and public institutions.

At present, there is a consensus that just having a comprehensive understanding of the planet’s natural system does not suffice. It is necessary to understand the complex interactions between the socio-economic system and the vital planetary systems which provide society with ecosystem and natural services. The Social Ecology doctoral programme contributes to the development of the environmental approaches characteristic in their interdisciplinary nature. The goal of the programme is the advancement of knowledge, which should contribute to the creation of a theoretical base from within the strategy of making economic, social, and cultural development sustainable, especially from an environmental perspective.

Academic research for this program must provide a comprehensive study of ecology and environmental science.

Nowadays, human impact is one of the main variables of environmental change both locally and globally. Managing this impact is critically important to human, social and economic well-being now and in the future.
