8 Environmental PhD Degree Programs in Spain

The Doctoral Program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering was the first of those offered by the USC in the area of technical teachings, it obtained the Quality Mention from the first call of the Ministry in the 2003/04 academic year, maintaining it uninterruptedly throughout all the courses in which it was in force, also obtaining the new label of Mention of Excellence since the 2011/12 academic year, the year in which this new measure of quality of doctoral programs was implemented.

This doctoral program provides a double continuity: first, to the previously existing doctoral program, and secondly to the Official Master's Degree in Regional Development and Economic Integration, which provides the teaching period. It deals with a rigorous, transversal program with the participation of multiple areas of knowledge, seeking interdisciplinarity in the analysis rather than the excessive specialization that occurred in some of the doctoral courses of a more formalistic nature, scarcely intensive and with hardly any orientation to the research training.

The next few decades will decide what fraction of the planet's diversity will survive. The training of experts in Biodiversity and Conservation is understood as a scientific commitment that wants to cover a need for a territory like Galicia of experts and evaluators of its Natural Environment.

This doctoral program aims to provide the society of specialist professionals in rural areas and civil engineering with an adequate ability to diagnose existing problems and with knowledge to solve them from applied research typical of the field of Engineering, with special emphasis on in research, development and transfer of results. This degree provides a response to a growing demand from applied professionals and researchers, since it is intended to provide students with advanced and quality scientific and technological training, thus contributing to rural and civil development.

Energy is essential for the organization of society, for transportation, to maintain the proper temperature in our homes in winter and summer, and for the operation of industry, farms and offices. In spite of everything, many energy resources are finite and, at higher levels, energy consumption is, in general, a source of pollution.

The teachings of the Doctorate of Environment and Natural Resources at USC has a long history with more than 30 years of experience in postgraduate courses and doctoral program.
