46 Environmental Engineering PhD Degree Programs

This program provides an update of all the aspects of environmental engineering including tools, techniques, and regulations. It covers a wide range of topics such as air quality control, water sanitation and distribution, water treatment, as well as waste pollutants sources and effects. It also explores the collection and transfer operations for solid wastes, the remediation of hazardous wastes, and the assessment of environmental impacts.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering PhD (CENE PhD) degree program provides opportunities for students to gain expertise in a broad range of research areas that support state initiatives, closely tie to campus research thrusts, and align with federal funding sources such as NSF, DoE, DoD, USDA and NASA. Doctoral students work with faculty advisors mentors to develop personalized programs of study and make significant contributions to the Civil and Environmental Engineering body of knowledge through their research. Graduates of the doctoral study in Chemical and Environmental Engineering can independently formulate a scientific problem, propose a hypothesis to solve the problem and perform experimental or theoretical attempts to confirm it.

PhD programme in Environment Engineering is designed to enable students become first-rate interdisciplinary researchers and acquire the knowledge and skills to succeed in both academic and non-academic career. Students of this programme have a possibility to acquire a double PhD degree, because of the contract with the University of Bologna (Italy).

The Doctoral Program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering was the first of those offered by the USC in the area of technical teachings, it obtained the Quality Mention from the first call of the Ministry in the 2003/04 academic year, maintaining it uninterruptedly throughout all the courses in which it was in force, also obtaining the new label of Mention of Excellence since the 2011/12 academic year, the year in which this new measure of quality of doctoral programs was implemented.

The aim of the doctoral study program "Thermal Engineering and Fuels in Industry" is the scientific education of professionals who can creatively solve scientific research problems in the field of thermal engineering, energy, fuel chemistry, and ceramic materials, especially for high temperatures and material and energy utilization of waste.
