This study program submitted for review aims to train professionals who can creatively apply their theoretical expertise in English studies within a broadly conceived context of education that spans all educational stages. The program also fosters ingenuity and flexibility, thus producing erudite experts who can reassess the ever-changing needs of foreign language teaching and incorporate these into their methodology. Perhaps most importantly, the study program submitted for review is a symbiosis between the major field of study (i.e. English philology, spanning linguistic and literary-cultural aspects) on the one hand, and didactics of English and applied didactics on the other. This is a program without specialization.

This program explains Second Language Teaching (SLT) methodology and supports it with many examples. It overviews different orientations for English Language Teaching (ELT) programs, describes pedagogical methods, and pinpoints the consistent ideas that lead to success in this field. The program develops practical coverage of all the key issues for the effective practice of ELT.

The learning skills at a distance from the Faculty of Arts & Humanities are usually highly professional. The degree programs of distance learning of Selinus University in this faculty allow access to the specialization in which the student can choose the topics of your interest in order to design a program fully adapted to his vocation. There are generally no problems for the professional practice of any of these specializations except in formal education.

Emory’s PhD program in English is both intellectually adventuresome and collegial. Because the program is small and the faculty is deep and wide-ranging in its expertise, students receive close mentoring as they become innovative researchers and teachers in their own right.

Contemporary English Studies is one exciting area of teaching and research. The Department of English offers an Honours Degree programme and a postgraduate programme in Contemporary English Studies.

The Doctoral Studies program in English Linguistics develops students’ knowledge of linguistic disciplines and prepares them for independent research activity, especially in the fields of functional syntax, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, stylistics and translation studies. Students become conversant with methods of linguistic research, which they then apply in the preparation of their doctoral dissertation.

The Ph.D. Program in English offers a large number of seminars each semester in both established and emerging fields of study. The diversity of the CUNY-wide doctoral consortium allows for a wide range of expertise amongst faculty members in the English program. The program, which enrolls approximately 20 new students each year, also provides opportunities for professional development, including workshops, seminars, mock interviews, and lectures; and has set forth Professional Development and Ethics Learning Goals. The department offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, with an emphasis on Literature and Social Justice. Students teach in the first-year writing program and receive training in research and pedagogy. Recent Ph.D. graduates have pursued a range of humanities careers, including tenure-track positions at institutions such as the University of Dayton and Moravian College; careers at non-profits such as the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center; and positions that bridge academic and student affairs at institutions such as the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

A Ph.D. in English prepares students at the most advanced stage for the interpretation and composition of texts. The Ph.D. program emphasizes rigorous critical study in the fields of rhetoric, composition, critical theory, cultural studies, literary studies, pedagogy, and technical writing.

This innovative and regionally unique program invites students to work at the intersection of rhetorical, textual, and cultural studies.
