14 Engineering PhD Degree Programs

The Ph.D. course aims to train researchers capable of carrying out high-quality research work related to Information Engineering in academic and non academic research institutions as well as in industrial research development centers. The course consists of four curricula:

The Ph.D. School in Science and Technology of Materials (STM) aims to provide to MS graduates in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering the skills needed to carry out highly qualified scientific and professional research in the field of Materials Science at Universities and public or private agencies

UTCB is a member of the European University EU—CONEXUS—Smart, Urban, Coastal, Sustainability, along with 8 other partners.

The program addresses open topics in software system analysis, development, and application. In both theoretical and practical terms, it has foundations in the research of software architectures, programming languages, and notations, together with tools and methods for software analysis and construction. These are studied both in general terms and in the context of important software system classes such as information systems, or distributed or parallel systems. On the creative side, the program combines projects of basic and applied research, often with strong experimental aspects, with outputs including research prototypes alongside traditional publications. The program does not contain specializations.

The study program provides advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the area of surface science, physics of interfaces and thin film physics, areas supporting contemporary nanotechnology. It includes the study of surface processes and structures at an atomic scale using a number of various experimental techniques for surface imaging and analysis. The study covers also borderline disciplines related to surface chemistry (surface catalysis, electrochemistry, on-surface synthesis). The program prepares professionals with a broad foundation in mathematics and physics and with deep knowledge in the area of surface science and physics of thin films.

The aim of this program is to provide students with advanced experimental and theoretical knowledge and skills covering the full spectrum of condensed matter physics and material research and prepare them for the active and creative use of acquired knowledge in the modern directions of basic research and relevant applications.

Graduates from the master's degree program may be admitted to study on the doctoral degree program in the field of industrial engineering and management. This study is the third, highest level of university study, is in full-time or combined form and the standard study period is 4 years.

Postgraduate University Doctoral Study in the area of Engineering Sciences, in the field of Electrical Engineering

Graduates from the follow-up master's degree program may be admitted to study on a doctoral degree program in materials, technology, quality, or metrology. This study is the third, highest level of university study, is in full-time or combined form and the standard study period is 4 years. Graduates from doctoral study programs are awarded the academic title of Doctor, abbreviated to Ph.D. after their name.

The main goal of the Chemical Engineering at our university is the quality education of Ph.D. students for future research and production work in several fields.

The PhD in Materials Science program is jointly offered between Ontario Tech University and Trent University. Courses are taught by faculty from both institutions via traditional face-to-face instruction augmented by the collaborative implementation of lectures and research meetings at a distance. This will be accomplished using advanced videoconferencing technology (AccessGrid) made possible by the membership of both institutions in the Shared Hierarchical Academic Research Computer Network (SHARCNET) high-performance computing consortium.

By choosing courses with the guidance of his or her supervisor, each student can adjust the programme to his or her research interests.

Graduates of the follow-up master's degree program may be admitted to study in the doctoral degree program in machine design.

The Ph.D. program in “Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology in chemistry” is designed to enlarge student’s knowledge in synthesis, characterization of nano-objects with the further search for their practical applications. The program typically lasts from 3 to 4 years, teaching students to be flexible and adaptable in their future research careers.
