The PhD in Electrical Engineering at OSU is designed for students who wish to pursue research as an occupation in industrial or governmental laboratories, or for those who wish to have an academic career that emphasizes teaching and/or research.

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is a key discipline, at the heart of the technology frontier. It deals with the design and analysis of electrical, magnetic and optical devices, and the processing, control, and transmission of information and energy. The tools used in electrical and computer engineering include electrical, electromagnetic and optical phenomena, systems theory, and computational hardware and software. The discipline can be divided in the fields of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.

The Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering offers the following four tracks: Computer Engineering, Communications and Signal Processing, Electronic and Optical Materials and Devices, and Power Systems and Control. Doctoral in Electrical Engineering Science The doctoral study program of Electrical Engineering Science is focused on scientific research and independent creative activity in various sub-areas of electrical engineering, including industrial electronics, automotive electronics, power electronics, electrical machines and apparatus, and electric drives. Therefore, the study is focused on the deepening of the theoretical basis of electrotechnical branches and on the detailed introduction to modern knowledge in a narrower focus, on which the topic of the doctoral dissertation is followed.

The program of Electrical Engineering (D.Sc, Ph.D.) is designed to advance the professional development of experienced electrical engineers and professionals in the electrical arena by extending their electrical knowledge and equipping them with broad research and process electrical skills, enabling them to make a key leadership contribution to their chosen fields.

Electrical and Computer Engineering offers graduate programs of instruction and research leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree. Instruction is offered and research facilities are available to support graduate study in control systems and robotics, digital signal processing, and communications, wireless engineering, electromagnetics modeling and analysis, microelectronics and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), power systems, digital systems, and computer engineering. Additionally, individualized programs that cross the traditional boundaries of engineering, mathematics, and the sciences can be accommodated.
