PhD program in Economics belongs to the third-level educational system and it aims to prepare researchers, who will possess deep theoretical and analytical skills to plan and carry out independent research in the field of Economics.

The PhD is a four-year program consisting of one and a half year of coursework followed by two and a half years of research. In the first year of the program, the focus is on providing the foundations for successful research. In the first semester of the second year students choose three additional courses in field subjects (or extra courses in the core subjects), which should be closely related to their research interests. In the second semester of the second year and in the third and fourth years, students are expected to develop their research projects and write a dissertation under the supervision of a faculty member.

The purpose of the Ph.D. in Economics is to develop advanced competencies in the mastering, interpretation, understanding, analysis, and application of economic models.

The doctoral programme in PhD in Economics welcomes all qualified applicants with Master´s degrees who have a strong interest in economic theory, econometric modelling and applied economics. Graduates will be equipped with advanced knowledge of the history of economics, micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, and economic policy, and also important research skills for becoming a successful researcher.

PhD in Economics and Finance This PhD programme is jointly run by the Universities of Trento and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano.

The PhD in Economics is a 4-year programme designed for highly qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire the research and analytical skills of the international scientific community in Economics. The Ph.D. Programme in Economics is a four-year, full-time programme. The first three semesters are devoted to coursework; the remaining semesters are devoted to the preparation of the Ph.D. dissertation.
