29 Dentistry PhD Degree Programs

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the highest degree offered by the University of Otago. It is awarded on the submission of a thesis which must meet rigorous standards. It requires highly developed academic ability, independence and perseverance. Most students take between 3-4 years of full-time study to complete their PhD.

In this era of globalization, all countries have the same opportunity to compete globally. The result of globalization is the development of the world of science. One indicator of a nation's progress is the number and quality of human resources with doctoral degrees. The number of Doctors needs to be increased, at least 20 percent of the total university lecturers. In this context, it is hoped that apart from accelerating the fulfillment of human resource needs with doctoral qualifications, it is also a program to generate new findings to strengthen national innovation and the nation's competitiveness. The doctoral program was developed not only to produce competent doctors and great inventors but also to produce doctoral scholars, knowledgeable and wise.

This programme is designed to unify the basic and clinical sciences, as it is believed that scientific and professional development cannot be separated but should proceed concurrently throughout the programme.
