The PhD program in "Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics", based in Firenze, is managed by a Consortium among the University of Firenze, the University of Perugia and the Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica "F. Severi"-Rome (INdAM). This PhD program inherited the tradition of the pre-existing three separate PhD's in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, and can rely upon the very many, and well established, scientific connections of the involved institutions with Universities and Research Centers in many Countries of the World. The relevant number of offered scholarships allows the achievement of a critical mass of PhD students and activities, which are fundamental for a doctorate with an interdisciplinary character.

The doctoral programme in Computer Science aims to provide students with advanced scientific, methodological and technological knowledge in computer science and related sectors and their corresponding fields of application. This knowledge will prepare students and introduce them to theoretical and applied research, with particular attention to interdisciplinarity and internationalisation, developing research skills so that they are able to produce original independent research of interest to the international scientific community and businesses.

The primary goal of the Doctor of Computer Science (D.Sc) is to grow research computer scientists with the ability to generate new knowledge. The program of Computer Science (D.Sc) is designed to advance the professional development of experienced computer scientist and professionals in the computer arena by extending their computer knowledge and equipping them with broad research and process computer skills, enabling them to make a key leadership contribution to their chosen fields.

The Ph.D. in Computer Science demands a very high level of intellectual, theoretical, and practical specialized scientific knowledge and insight into problems related to the field of study and the application of advanced experimental methods and techniques of the modern research, as well as fundamental scientific and academic values in generating, processing, interpreting and presenting research data orally and in written form.
