PhD in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology The Doctoral Study Program (DSP) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is a combined study program aimed at three areas of education (Informatics; Biology, Ecology and the Environment; General Medicine and Dentistry). It is a multidisciplinary "doctoral degree" program between two universities. All subjects offered to students of this DSP are a combination of subjects focused on informatics - guaranteed by VŠB-TUO (50%), and subjects focused on biology and medical sciences - guaranteed by Palacky University in Olomouc (30% + 20%).

The Doctor of Biology (Ph.D.) objective is to prepare students to become scholars and independent researchers with the ability to apply biology principles as well as advanced analytical and experimental techniques to conduct new research.

PhD by research via Distance Learning is awarded after successfully completing a theoretical research specialization. This research is presented in the form of a doctoral thesis. The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) is the only doctoral degree that can be achieved through distance learning. Founded in 2001, the Institute of Hydrological Sciences (IHS) provides opportunities in research and education in three major areas: global hydrological cycles, hydrosphere environmental sciences, and information-technology based hydro-hazard mitigation.

The Centre for Stress and Age-Related Disease comprises internationally-recognised researchers working on multidisciplinary projects at the biology-chemistry interface. Our work seeks to understand the role played by stress in the initiation and progression of age-related disease and to improve health and wellbeing in older people. Our work focuses on three main areas of research: Chemical Biology Cell Biology Translational Science

The awarded degree, in recognition of the completion of the requirements of this program, is "Doctor in Cellular and Molecular Biology”. The study plan for the Ph.D. The program shall consist of a total of 54 credit hours. The Ph.D. students must complete all degree requirements in a minimum of six (6) and a maximum of twelve (12) semesters after matriculation.
