PhD in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology The Doctoral Study Program (DSP) Bioinformatics and Computational Biology is a combined study program aimed at three areas of education (Informatics; Biology, Ecology and the Environment; General Medicine and Dentistry). It is a multidisciplinary "doctoral degree" program between two universities. All subjects offered to students of this DSP are a combination of subjects focused on informatics - guaranteed by VŠB-TUO (50%), and subjects focused on biology and medical sciences - guaranteed by Palacky University in Olomouc (30% + 20%).

The Vascular biology PhD program provides training in the basic mechanism of vascular function and coagulation, as well as the physiological and pathological aspects associated with it. Topics include endothelial cell, smooth muscle cell, and platelet biology, angiogenesis, vascular pathologies (incl. atherosclerosis, aneurysms), as well as arterial and venous thrombosis.

In the RNA Biology PhD track, RNA-based regulatory circuits are explored in silico, in vitro and in vivo with technologies ranging from bioinformatics to biochemistry to imaging. RNAS mediate gene expression but have also regulatory, structural and signaling functions. Consequently, aberrant RNA processing, structure or function affects organismal development and health.

The PhD program in Evolutionary Biology and Ecology focuses on the study of biological diversity and its evolution, as well as the behavior and relationships of living things, including humans, among themselves and with the environment. Evolutionary biology and ecology represent an integrated research area, which in many prestigious institutions is part of a single Department of Ecology and Evolution.

How did such an amazing variety of living things evolve on Earth? What makes these bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals? How do living things differ from non-living things? Part of these questions forms the foundation of biology and life sciences. A research thesis in this area of study should provide answers to these questions.

Quantitative Biology and Complex Systems is an interdisciplinary field that integrates biology, mathematics, physics, computer science, and engineering to study living systems in a measurable, predictable, and modelable manner.

Part of these questions form the basics of biology and life sciences. We are also living organisms and we have evolved in response to the same basic set of chemical elements. We all share the same processes that allow us to survive. This program explains biological concepts and offers a unified presentation of life and its variation through evolution.

The Doctor of Biology (Ph.D.) objective is to prepare students to become scholars and independent researchers with the ability to apply biology principles as well as advanced analytical and experimental techniques to conduct new research.

The basic goal of the Doctoral Program in Aquatic Environmental Sciences (PDCMA) is to train highly qualified professionals who are able to enter careers in research and management in public or private institutions or companies related to the aquatic environment or teaching at higher education level.

The Doctoral Program in Biology has a duration of 4 years, corresponding to a total of 240 ECTS. The first year includes a curricular component (60 ECTS) structured in Advanced Courses, focused on various thematic areas of the scientific field of Biology (total of 24 ECTS), tutorial classes (20 ECTS), and the preparation of the thesis component (16 ECTS). At the end of the first year, the student will have to submit and publicly defend his doctoral workplan. A positive evaluation is required for their permanence in the doctoral program.
