The doctoral study program Animal Husbandry, Animal Nutrition, and Biochemistry is an academically focused study program, corresponding to the current state and level of science and the needs of practice in Europe. Graduates of the doctoral study Animal Husbandry, Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry gained in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired through independent creative activity and the acquisition of new scientific knowledge in the field of study. Graduates can share actively their knowledge in the field of study at the international level and publicly. Based on this qualification, graduates are mainly employed at research institutions and universities.

The doctoral study program Animal Protection, Welfare, and Behavior is an academically focused study program, corresponding to the current state and level of science and the needs of practice in Europe. The Doctoral Program in Basic and Applied Research in Veterinary Sciences, proposes advanced and specialized training in the body of conceptual, procedural and technical knowledge that allows adequate development in the field of biomedical sciences. This Program is characterized by its interdisciplinarity, covering basic, applied and clinical areas. It has the participation of different research groups that develop their activity in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

The Doctorate Program in Veterinary Medicine and Health comes from the update of that first Doctorate Program at the Lugo Campus called Introduction to Research in Animal Pathology (1989) to the different state and regional legislation on doctoral studies, and that Its fundamental purpose was to train doctors who could develop the highest academic, administrative and professional positions; This statement is confirmed by the excellent curricula of the doctoral students who graduated from our Department.

The PhD-program "Animal and Zoonotic Infections" is a postgraduate program of the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover designed for three years that offers project-oriented postgraduate training in animal infection medicine and zoonoses research and will provide advanced qualifications and skills students will need for a successful career in research or related fields.

The department's contemporary facilities enhance basic and applied research capabilities for intensive large animal, poultry, and laboratory animal work. An extensive, federally inspected meat laboratory is available for meat and poultry research. In addition, the department maintains facilities 40 minutes away from Lincoln for research in all disciplines of beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and swine.

The program is focused on the comprehensive training of human resources at the postgraduate level, who, by becoming involved in knowledge generation, validation and/or transfer activities, as well as professional training, respond with innovative and knowledge-based proposals to the demands for a solution to the problem of animal production systems, the sustainable use and exploitation of natural resources in Chihuahua, in Mexico and even beyond its borders.
