The International PhD Program in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI) combines expertise from many disciplines in the agro-environmental field aimed at training researchers, enabling them to carry out qualified scientific activities in the field of plant and animal production, considering also aspects of eco-sustainability, climate change and recovery of polluted and degraded areas in order to restore their agricultural cultivation capabilities.

This is a program marked by multidisciplinarity in terms of teacher and student qualifications since it involves researchers from four different departments of the University of Santiago de Compostela (Plant Production, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Plant Physiology and Botany), four research centers (Centro de Investigaciones Forestales de Lourizán, Estación Fitopatológica de Arenero, Centro de Investigaciones Agrarias de Mabegondo and Misión Biológica de Galicia) and international institutions (Germany, Switzerland, United States, Portugal and Greece), University of Extremadura and two centers of the University of A Coruña (Institute of Geology and Faculty of Sciences) which offers the student a wide range to choose the subject related to agricultural and forestry production in Galicia and the Atlantic biogeographic region of Europe.

The Ph.D. program in Agricultural and Resource Economics is intended for students who wish to develop their ability to make original contributions to scientific knowledge. Award of the degree testifies to broad mastery of economic theory, quantitative methods, and one or more fields in agricultural and resource economics.

The PhD Programme in Agrobiodiversity is a four-year residential Course. It aims at the enhancement of human resource capacities in the utilisation and management of genetic variation in agricultural and natural systems, to improve the sustainability of agricultural systems and the conservation of genetic resources for the well-being of present and future generations.

The Ph.D. in agricultural and environmental sciences program at N.C. A&T teaches students about the complexities of our global food system and how to adapt to emerging challenges around food, energy, and water. This program prepares individuals for successful careers as researchers, faculty, and entrepreneurs and to be active and effective leaders in academia and the agriculture industry in both the public and private sectors. Our doctoral graduates will confront the grand challenges of providing and sustaining a safe and healthy supply of food, fiber, and other products for a burgeoning global population.

This PhD program aims to provide talented and motivated students with in-depth research skills that will allow them to tackle relevant agricultural and environmental problems in mountain areas. Students will have the chance to join a range of training opportunities, seminars, and conferences and to work under the guidance of supervisors within international research teams.

Our planet is experiencing a decline in its non-renewable resources and is exposed to risks deriving from climate change. The agricultural sector must supply food, non-food products, ecosystemic services and energy, whilst guaranteeing safety and food sovereignty. Agriculture, Environment and Bioenergy is therefore essential to develop advanced training courses in order to achieve efficiency and sustainability in the agricultural sector and its various territorial contexts, taking into account the various elements of the production system and their organisation in agro-ecosystems.

The Doctoral School has eight Ph.D. programs that encompass all the branches and interfaces of forestry and wildlife management sciences. Education and research at the Doctoral School are pursued in the basic and applied sciences, related to forests, wildlife, and nature. The knowledge and the degree gained at the Doctoral School are a good reference when applying for leading positions in higher education institutions, research institutes, forestry, wildlife management, and conservation.

The Ph.D. in Agrobiosciences is a three-year program that aims at educating highly competent researchers with an interdisciplinary background who will be able to face research frontiers in plant sciences. The program is structured in two curricula: i) Genomics and crop production and ii) Agriculture and environment, offering training in frontier topics of plant sciences, including molecular biology, plant genomics- cs and biotechnology, and environmental and agronomic sciences.

This Program is coordinated in the Department of Plant and Soil Science.

A regular three to five year program requires a minimum of 48 and 72 credits, respectively. The program has six modules to fulfill the knowledge branch of fisheries. 

A novel and innovative Ph.D. program for students from temperate countries with skills in agriculture and agri-food chains searching for tropical regions contextualization and for students from tropical countries who seek to confront their contextualized competencies with exposure to new technical and scientific knowledge, through an international training experience.
