The MSc Architectural Lighting Design teaches how lighting quality, both natural and artificial light, affects human behaviour, comfort and health. Graduates have unique competence in lighting planning and work in lighting design, architectural studios or as consultants.

The Master’s in Church Music programme aims to educate musicians that possess high artistic, educational and professional abilities. We offer specialisations in Arrangement and Composition, Organ and Keyboard, and Vocal Music and Choir. On completion of the programme, the student must possess advanced knowledge and skills in order to work within the various functions and engagements of a professional musician – either as a soloist, a member of an established ensemble or as a church musician within the Church of Sweden or within other denominations.

The Fine Arts/Music Program at Karlstad University is an artistic education designed for students who want to develop their technical and artistic musical skills to a very high level. With studies on main instrument, ensemble and musical knowledge the student acquires a solid foundation for a professional life as a musician in various musical constellations. The Program comprises 180 credits and leads to a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Music. The studies are at the Ingesund school of music in Arvika. At the school we have symphony orchestras, string bands, choirs, symphonic brass band, jazz orchestra, and a variety of small ensembles.

You choose the specialisation of your individual musical immersion. You can also choose among several specialisation courses that will help you create the tools you need to work as a freelance musician. During three years, you will participate in collaborations with students from other courses at the Academy of Music and Drama. You will immerse yourself artistically in your main instrument by working individually as well as in ensemble. You have good opportunities to influence the direction of the curriculum. In the course Ensemble Performance, you encounter a range of musical traditions, which also contributes to the development of your own musical language. The emphasis is on interaction and active listening, and on the skills of playing in an ensemble, with dynamics, rhythm and communication. Courses in ergonomics are also included. You carry out a degree project during third year (15 HEC) in which you investigate a chosen question/issue through your musical practice. In this project you learn more about critical attitudes and the fundamental principles of artistic and practice-based research.

As an animator & VFX artist, you are responsible for creating movements and special effects for two and three-dimensional graphics. You also need to know how to plan and implement an animation project from idea to finished product. VFX is a broad term and an abbreviation of the English word “visual effects”, whose tradition arose above all in the film industry. Modern VFX is considerably broader and characterizes an entire industry that works with “special effects”, i.e. everything from CGI (computer-generated graphics), compositing (image processing) and motion capture (computer-processed motion recordings), to the various tools and software needed to create it. At a specialized level, it is usually one of these areas that you work with.
