This course’s integration of artistic development with performance and production skills prepares students to become independent practitioners and/or to work in key organizational, administrative and artistic positions across the arts. In the first two years, students take part in a programme that seeks to develop their practice in three key areas: text/theory, body/movement, and materials/technology. In the final year students choose an area of focus, which will be developed and contextualized within independent projects. The course is tailored towards the development of an individual creative identity in the context of collaborative work, where students undertake different roles and positions to challenge their own process and ways of working.

Firmly embedded in Kent’s thriving creative landscape, this course is aimed at graduates from theatre and performing arts degrees and other related subjects, as well as artists in theatre/performance who wish to take some time to develop or re-connect with their practice.

The AA Interprofessional Studio (AAIS) offers 12-month MA or 18-month MFA options and explores practices of spatial performance and design that reach beyond standard definitions of architecture and performance. Spatial performance uses live projects and engagement with networks spanning different disciplines to explore how creative practitioners work and how design functions in specific contexts. The studio fosters a learning environment that encourages students to build connections within and between different creative fields.

This programme provides you with a broad understanding of the theories and practices of dance movement therapy necessary for safe and effective clinical work, and enables you to practise as a dance movement therapist.

Prop Makers work with designers and directors from all areas of the industry, and need to be ingenious, quick-thinking, dexterous, enjoy problem solving and have a love of materials and all things three-dimensional. On this course students will gain experience and a high level of technical competence, working with a wide-range of materials and techniques including sculpting skills, casting techniques, welding, polystyrene carving, vacuum forming, carpentry, life casting, paint finishing and texturing. They will develop skills in research, analysis, collaboration and design interpretation, as well as strong technical drawing skills, and an understanding of color theories, working to scale, period styles and aesthetics.

This degree reflects the diversity and excitement of the subject in the new millennium, and gives you the opportunity to look at the theory and practice of performance in a range of media.

Students will undertake masterclasses in producing with key industry leaders and innovators, and take an active role in the organization of events, productions and projects, underpinned by a solid understanding of the cultural industries, creative producing, and theory and research in the field. Creative producers work with artists to create performances and festivals, run venues and companies, manage projects, raise funds and investment, and negotiate commissions. While learning, students will also gain a career head start by building a vital network of industry and peer contacts.

MA Musical Theatre: Acting and Performance Our MA Musical Theatre: Acting and Performance course is an intensive, one-year training program designed around the key musical theatre skills of acting, singing, and dance/movement. At the heart of the course is a focus on acting skills for musical theatre both in sung and spoken text.
