10 Orthotics Degree Programs

Our program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the National Commission of Orthotic and Prosthetic Education. We aim to help students achieve academic and real-world success through the attitudes, skills, and knowledge they learn through our program. Our end goal is to give our students the tools they need to be ethical and competent practitioners of allied health.

Orthotics and prosthetics is a specialized health care profession, which combines a unique blend of clinical and technical skills to care for patients who have neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders and/or patients who have a partial or total absence of a limb. Orthotists and prosthetists provide treatment that allows these individuals to lead more active and independent lives by collaborating with other members of the health care team. This work requires substantial clinical and technical judgment.

The Prosthetics and Orthotics, BSc work with assistive devices that sit on the outside of the body and replace or assist any part of the body that is not functioning properly. The technology used in the profession is individually adapted and focuses on increasing the quality of life for people with various limitations.

The course in Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Care aims to train professional figures in the health profession of Orthoptist and Ophthalmology Assistant. Graduates are health care professionals who carry out their activities in the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of ocular motility disorders, amblyopia, and some forms of age-related low vision, following diagnosis of the condition by the ophthalmic specialist.

The Baylor College of Medicine Orthotics and Prosthetics Program is the only academic program in the nation in which the dual clinical residency requirements are included. Program graduates are eligible to sit for both Orthotics and Prosthetics board certification exams upon completing their M.S. degree.

The MSPO program is an entry-level professional program that prepares student practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to provide services to both the traditional and underserved communities in the field of prosthetics and orthotics.

Diploma in Orthotic / Prosthetic Technician the practice-oriented and hands-on Orthotic/Prosthetic Technician program teaches students to be competent with many hand tools and specialized machines used in the fabrication of orthotic and prosthetic devices. This program is unique in Canada.

Students who earn the Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical Applications Diploma will meet the requirements to be employed as an Orthotic/Prosthetic Assistant or enter a Baccalaureate degree or a Master’s degree in Orthotics Prosthetics.
