The Masters of Optometry Program at JMC was established 16 years ago. The Optometry Department was established 28 years ago and has been leading the field of optometric education in both undergraduate and graduate studies. The inter-university master's degree seeks to enhance the quality of research through the cooperation of the different Universities with research programs in Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, providing a more complete research training to students, enhancing their mobility and collaboration with companies.

The University Master's Degree in Research in Vision Sciences (MICCV) is an inter-university degree, aimed at university research and teaching training, which is the first step towards a doctoral thesis. It offers comprehensive training in Vision Sciences, combining biomedical, physical-optical and neurophysiological aspects, as well as the essential prior preparation for a future scientific researcher and university teacher. The Institute of Applied Ophthalmobiology (IOBA), of the University of Valladolid, is responsible for the academic coordination of this master's degree, in which the Universities of Alcalá, Complutense de Madrid, Murcia and Santiago de Compostela also participate.
