The University Master's Degree in Ophthalmic Nursing is a proposal from the University of Valladolid that arises from the need to train nursing staff in the ophthalmic field. The new Law on Nursing Specialities regulates the training in different areas in which nursing has a predominant role, and therefore there is an evident need for specialised training in ophthalmic nursing to cover one of the fields of specialisation in demand in society in the social sciences. This Master's Degree Program is aimed at students and professionals who have completed the Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and University Graduates in Nursing.

The University Master's Degree in Research in Vision Sciences (MICCV) is an inter-university degree, aimed at university research and teaching training, which is the first step towards a doctoral thesis. It offers comprehensive training in Vision Sciences, combining biomedical, physical-optical and neurophysiological aspects, as well as the essential prior preparation for a future scientific researcher and university teacher. The Institute of Applied Ophthalmobiology (IOBA), of the University of Valladolid, is responsible for the academic coordination of this master's degree, in which the Universities of Alcalá, Complutense de Madrid, Murcia and Santiago de Compostela also participate.

The mission of this program is to train competent entry-level opticians that will contribute to the community’s enhancement of quality eye care. The Optician Technology program will offer didactic and clinical training in the use of specialized equipment and procedures that will allow graduates to assist in the correction of vision deficiencies as part of a health care team.

The Optician program is two years in length and trains students to be in the forefront of eye care practice, working as part of a multi-disciplinary vision care team. Students will study ocular pathology, refracting and pharmacology, as well as business and retail aspects of the profession. Application of the theory will be demonstrated through clinical competencies focusing on refraction, filling eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, ensuring a proper fit, and determining clients’ eyewear needs. These skills, along with business and retail skills, will be practiced and demonstrated in a dynamic, patient-centered environment.

Through its training, the optician-eyewear is invested with multiple skills. It is a vision specialist scientifically equipped in contact and optometry to interpret and translate prescriptions of the ophthalmologist as a visual aid to correct defects or deficiencies in vision.

Through theory and practical experience in labs/clinics, students learn to competently dispense eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sub-normal vision devices, and learn about basic refraction.

Through a combination of theory, practice (labs), and application (practicum), you will be extensively trained in eyeglass dispensing, contact lens fitting and automated refraction.

The Ophthalmology MSc is a unique, comprehensive study of Ophthalmology, combining contemporary clinical knowledge with up-to-date research, delivered jointly by UCL and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Opticianry is one of the fastest-growing fields in the state with an average starting salary of $51,000 a year for licensed opticians. BFIT is the only college in Massachusetts that offers a degree in Opticianry and 95% of our graduates get a job in their field.

This category teaches the skills used in a comprehensive eye examination. The courses begin right away in the first year and continue through the second year.
