1582 Nursing Degree Programs

The Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) allows students to develop a comprehensive understanding of the professional nursing practice. The advanced component focuses on cultivating non-technical skills in leadership and decision-making and a better understanding of our international health landscape.

The Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission approves the nursing program, and the program is accredited by National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation. Students who complete the two-year associate degree program are eligible to take national board exams for registered nurses. The curriculum provides a strong foundation in applied and social sciences and an understanding of the fundamentals of patient care in a variety of settings. Throughout the program, students integrate experience caring for patients in acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community agencies. Successful completion of this program leads to an Associate in Nursing, Direct Transfer Agreement/Major Related Program (DTA/MRP). Students with this degree need only to complete senior-level courses at select universities in the state of Washington to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a nursing associate, you'll deliver hands-on care to patients. You'll work alongside healthcare support workers (holding a care certificate) and fully qualified registered nurses, bridging the existing gap between the two roles.

The Vocational Nursing (VN) program prepares individuals to provide general nursing care under the direction of a registered nurse, physician, or dentist, including the collaboration with other professionals and consumers in delivering holistic healthcare.

The main aim of the Master's Degree in Advanced Nursing Clinical Practice is to provide specialised training and update knowledge so that students gain advanced clinical and research competences. On completion of the master's degree, nursing professionals will have learnt skills to improve current nursing care practices on the basis of scientific evidence, and to create new, specialised knowledge in nursing of cancer and chronic disease patients.

The nursing discipline is characterized by its emphasis on evidence-based practice, where nurses utilize current research and clinical guidelines to inform their care decisions. We engage students, faculty and communities through dynamic and innovative nursing education, practice and scholarship to influence health in our world. Our pre-licensure BSN program graduates 226 students per year incorporating patient care simulation, be it with high-fidelity mannequins or standardized patients (trained live actors), into clinical courses. Our senior-level transition to practice course includes a review of critical skills and preparation for the NCLEX (RN certification and licensure exam). Seniors enjoy an expanded 7-week "capstone" practicum their final semester, working full-time with a preceptor in a hospital or other clinical agency.

Master's degree graduates in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences possess advanced cultural and professional training to intervene with high competence in management, training and research processes in the health professions as a whole.

The course is highly practical, giving you hands-on experience. You'll spend 50% of your time on placement in hospitals, in the community and in our skills and simulation labs developing valuable hands-on skills. You'll work with patients, carers, clinical mentors and other healthcare professionals. Placement opportunities include medical and surgical wards, oncology, ICU, A&E, coronary care, operating theatres, district nursing, GP practice nursing and integrated community teams.

The Family Nurse Practitioner is designed to expand the knowledge of the nurse as it relates to the role of the family nurse practitioner and advanced nursing practice. Family nurse practitioners serve as the primary health care providers in many diverse practice settings including, but not limited to, private medical offices, health clinics and acute care settings.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop the intellectual and practical competencies of the qualifying student and to facilitate her/his professional values to promote the health of the individual, family, group, and community as a specialist, leader, and consultant in and as a member of the nursing/psychiatric/health team through her/his research, professional and clinical abilities. This qualification serves as a basis for advanced learning.
