The Master of Nursing Science (MNSc) is an intensive integrated Program of study, usually completed in two calendar years of full time study, which offers a pathway to a nursing career. Graduates from any discipline will be considered for this qualification. Students will engage in clinically-focused, face-to-face and online, research-informed learning through the University of Otago, Christchurch, in partnership with healthcare providers in the South Island. Students will develop their knowledge and skills for practice through case-based scenarios, clinical simulation, extensive clinical experiences and research.

This degree will enable you to enter practice as a registered nurse with a sound knowledge base of nursing theory, social and biological sciences, research and professional practice skills. The programme provides a balance of theoretical studies and nursing practice experiences which occur in a wide range of community and acute care settings. You will develop the understanding and skills needed to provide professional nursing care, promote health and develop as a nurse leader. The Bachelor of Nursing (BN) is a full-time, three-year programme (or five years equivalent part-time) that offers you a stimulating undergraduate degree level of studies and provides a pathway to your professional qualification as a New Zealand registered nurse.

This program provides an opportunity for Pacific trained nurses to undertake a nursing education program that allows them to apply to the NCNZ for registration and a practicing certificate to work in Aotearoa New Zealand as a nurse. The program is informed by Pacific pedagogies and provides an understanding of the various contexts of Pacific health while supporting learners’ cultural capacity to be effective health professionals within a Nursing context.

The Master of Nursing Practice is a pathway for graduates of any Bachelor's degree to pursue a career as a registered nurse in Aotearoa New Zealand. Nurses support people and whānau. They work in person-centred partnerships to deliver safe and equitable healthcare. They can practice across an array of health settings and are responsive to the healthcare needs of our country’s diverse population.

The Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) (MNSc (Pre-reg)) Program is a 4-semester two-year Program. The MNSc (Pre-reg) allows degree-qualified students a direct and faster route to a nursing career. On successful completion, graduates will be awarded a Master of Nursing Science (Pre-registration) and be eligible to apply to the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) to sit the State Final Examination to become a registered nurse.

This clinically focused Nursing program is designed for registered nurses choosing to focus on extending their knowledge of Nursing or Mental Health and Addiction. Credits may be gained towards a Master’s study.

This Nursing program provides registered nurses with the opportunity to extend their clinical knowledge and skills in a specific area of practice including registered nurse prescribing in primary health and specialty teams. It is delivered through a combination of block courses and online. A candidate may take up to four years to complete this postgraduate diploma.

The EIT | Te Pukenga Master of Nursing Science programme will build on knowledge, skills and attributes which registered nurses have gained in their undergraduate degrees and subsequent professional practice. The programme is designed to meet the needs of registered nurses who are seeking postgraduate study to prepare them for a variety of advanced nursing practice, nursing education, policy, management and other leadership roles. Our postgraduate courses are offered either online or with blended delivery. This means that the majority of the work is located on a virtual teaching and learning platform with directed activities and learning that you work through. Lecturers work within the virtual classroom setting so that they maintain contact with you.
