This degree is designed for registered nurses wanting to develop research skills that have practical application for innovations in the health care industry and scholarly understanding of nursing practice. It enables informed participation in research endeavours and clinical practice innovation and improvement. In this degree, students extend and deepen their knowledge of a specialised area in nursing through a program of supervised research.

Introduced in 1999, the nursing specialty was approved as the Hubei Distinction Major in 2005, and the National Distinction Major in 2009. In 2010 nursing was approved as a distinctive undergraduate major among the colleges and universities of Hubei province. The nursing major was ratified as the important discipline in Hubei Province and program of “Pilot for Comprehensive Major Reform”. The Nursing School consists of three offices; (administrative office, teaching affairs office and students’ affairs office, 4 teaching bases, 1 department of basic courses and 1 nursing skills center for training and teaching.

During the last 10 years, the educational philosophy of the school has been updated constantly, teaching facility improved, teaching management standardized, and teaching team becomes more reasonable gradually. The specialty of nursing was granted to be the key construction discipline of Zhejiang Province in 2007 and the special characteristic discipline construction site of the National Education Department in 2010. The school now serves as a unit member of Nursing Higher Education Steering Committee of Education Department, the 3rd unit member of Higher Education Teaching Material Review Committee, the vice-president unit of Nursing Education under the National Higher Education Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and also the provincial training base for the key discipline of Chinese-Western Integrated Nursing.

The Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education is an innovative, contemporary and accelerated program of fully online study designed for nurses who want to move beyond discipline specific ways of teaching and learning and experience education as transdisciplinary. Students have the opportunity to develop their teaching and learning knowledge and skills and the capacity to influence patient and education outcomes in their workplace. Students learn with experienced clinicians, educators, academics and researchers from nursing and education disciplines. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education, students have the opportunity to progress to the Master of Advanced Nursing or the Master of Education (Learning and Leadership).
