The Diploma in Practical Nursing at Northern Lights College follows the new provincial curriculum as revised in 2017. The program is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills, judgments, and attitudes to perform to the full range of competencies as endorsed by the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP). Upon successful completion of the program, learners will possess the competencies to successfully complete the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE).

Our compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Honours degree is completed by students full-time over fall, winter and summer semesters. The hybrid coursework occurs on campus, in small experiential learning labs and through clinical placements.

Our practical nursing students have varied backgrounds: high school graduates, international students, adults aged 21 and over, etc., but all have the same qualities: they are organized, motivated and agile to their hands. Autonomous and versatile, auxiliary nursing staff are responsible for a large number of patient care: intravenous, medication calculation, physical examinations, etc. In the healthcare team, their leadership and clinical judgment are essential.

The two-year graduate certificate program is designed for internationally educated nurses with a four-year bachelor's degree in nursing.
