The program objectives are to train students to become researchers in the field of genetics and breeding and eventually become independent plants and animal breeders, based on their in-depth genetic understanding.

The mission of the Mina and Everard Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences is to impart biological knowledge and scientific education based on modern research. In addition to imparting knowledge, we strive to arouse the curiosity of our students and to cultivate their intellectual and cultural growth.

BIU’s Goodman Faculty of Life Sciences offers students biological knowledge and a scientific education based on modern research. Our faculty includes more than 40 internationally recognized scientists who have a wide variety of research interests and who teach courses related to their specializations.

During their graduate studies, our students participate in innovative and groundbreaking scientific research in one of the numerous fields of the life sciences, according to their choice. Graduate studies take place only within the research track, which requires submission of a thesis, and are contingent upon finding an advisor among the Institute's researchers.

The M.Sc. program offers a Thesis (research) track and requires two years of full-time study. Outstanding students may join the combined M.Sc.-Ph.D. track during the 2nd year of their M.Sc. studies. The Department of Life Sciences comprises a team of investigators conducting cutting-edge research in numerous realms of modern biology.

The teaching program provides students with opportunities to study and research various environmental topics, with an emphasis on pollution treatment, overexploitation of natural resources, and the influence of agriculture on these issues. The program encompasses chemical, physical, ecological, economical, and ethical aspects.

The Teaching Division of Biomedical Sciences offers a wide range of specialization tracks, combining research and studies in medical and life sciences with emphasis on understanding the functioning of the human body in situations of health and disease. The program prepares its graduates for teaching and research positions in academic institutions, and research and works in knowledge-intensive industries, hospitals, and healthcare systems.

The Teaching Division of Biomedical Sciences offers a wide range of specialization tracks, combining research and studies in medical and life sciences with emphasis on understanding the functioning of the human body in situations of health and disease. The program prepares its graduates for teaching and research positions in academic institutions, and research and works in knowledge-intensive industries, hospitals, and healthcare systems.

This two-year program is intended for foreign students and new immigrants who hold a first degree in natural/medical sciences and wish to continue their studies as a researcher. It is given completely in English and classes are taken together with Israeli students. The program leads to an M.Sc. degree or, if extended, to a Ph.D.

The M.Sc. in Geological and Environmental Studies Program at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a research degree with a thesis, designed to impart research skills and professional competence in a variety of fields in geology and environmental science. The study program is subject to rules and regulations set by the Faculty of Natural Sciences, including awarding of credit points and eligibility for scholarships and teaching assistantships.

The Master of Science in Animal Sciences aims to prepare students to become leading professionals in modern agriculture and contribute newly-acquired skills and knowledge for the benefit of agriculture in their home countries. Students will learn the fundamentals of Animal Sciences based on the most recent scientific findings and understand the “science” behind animal sciences, animal physiology, farm animal production and the environmental impact of agricultural activity. The program also prepares students for participation in doctoral-level programs.

Drylands occupy more than one-third of the earth's land surface, including most of the Middle East and Israel. Dwindling water supplies and deteriorating water quality impede the sustainable development of drylands and the well-being of their growing population. M.Sc. in Hydrology & Water Quality is to introduce students to cutting-edge research and graduate education in water sciences, aimed at improving human life in drylands through technologies and policies for the sustainable use of water resources

The master's program places an emphasis on developing students' knowledge and skills necessary for understanding and conducting research in a variety of scientific and professional areas. Our courses are intended for students of the Soil and Water teaching program as well as students specializing in environmental studies, agricultural production branches, horticulture, and field crops and vegetables.

The master's program is intended for students with a bachelor's degree in biology and life sciences, students with a DVM degree, or students in the combined DVM/M.Sc program at the Koret School of Veterinary Medicine. The program aims to expand and deepen the knowledge and understanding students attained in their undergraduate studies, and to allow them to take their first steps as researchers.

The Master of Science in Environmental Quality Sciences prepares students to address the challenges of global environmental issues: development of alternative water and energy resources, water and soil pollution treatment, waste recycling, agricultural intensification, environmentally-sustainable pest control, and plant protection, and related economics.

The international Master of Science in Plant Sciences prepares students to become leading professionals in the present and future agriculture and adapt their new knowledge to local conditions in their home countries. Students will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in the scientific basis and principles of crop plant production, the environmental impact of agricultural activity, analysis of specific cropping systems, seeking solutions to practical problems, either in the scientific literature or by an experimental approach, and adapting appropriate solutions to various situations.
