The Malmö Academy of Music is part of the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts at Lund University and is an academy for prospective professional musicians, church musicians, composers, music teachers or researchers who want a solid education in their area of music. The Fine Arts/Music Program at Karlstad University is an artistic education designed for students who want to develop their technical and artistic musical skills to a very high level. With studies on main instrument, ensemble and musical knowledge the student acquires a solid foundation for a professional life as a musician in various musical constellations. The Program comprises 180 credits and leads to a Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Music. The studies are at the Ingesund school of music in Arvika. At the school we have symphony orchestras, string bands, choirs, symphonic brass band, jazz orchestra, and a variety of small ensembles.

At Ingesund Music School, we offer a calm, scenic environment with considerable access to practice rooms, as well as plenty of recording opportunities. In close collaboration with our three professors of voice, piano and string instruments, you will have great opportunities to develop as a musician, gain deeper artistic knowledge and specialise your craft and your profile. You will also have the opportunity to play in both large and small ensembles such as string orchestras, symphonic orchestras, brass orchestras, vocal ensembles and choirs. Together, we build up your personal brand and profile as an international performer.

You choose the specialisation of your individual musical immersion. You can also choose among several specialisation courses that will help you create the tools you need to work as a freelance musician. During three years, you will participate in collaborations with students from other courses at the Academy of Music and Drama. You will immerse yourself artistically in your main instrument by working individually as well as in ensemble. You have good opportunities to influence the direction of the curriculum. In the course Ensemble Performance, you encounter a range of musical traditions, which also contributes to the development of your own musical language. The emphasis is on interaction and active listening, and on the skills of playing in an ensemble, with dynamics, rhythm and communication. Courses in ergonomics are also included. You carry out a degree project during third year (15 HEC) in which you investigate a chosen question/issue through your musical practice. In this project you learn more about critical attitudes and the fundamental principles of artistic and practice-based research.

The programme is international, which means that we are open to applicants without qualifications in Swedish language. The language of instruction will be, if required, English. The education aims to develop and inspire your personal artistry as an improvising and composing musician, as well as to give you the prerequisites required to gain a strong identity in today's music industry. You will have individual lessons in your main instrument, and great emphasis is on developing your ability to perform with others. The ensemble courses offer a wide field of improvisational music that often transcend genres. We start from a broad interpretation of the concept of jazz – as a language and historical context or as a mind-set, a musical gathering where we are in a state of constant motion and change.
