Accounting continues to be recognized as one of the world's leading professions. Numerous companies conduct on-campus interviews because our graduates are known for their excellent work ethic, knowledge base, and willingness to contribute. Von Allmen School of Accountancy students are a primary source of talent for all of the international, national, regional, and local CPA firms and corporations. Our placement rate by the semester of graduation for the Class of 2019 is 95% and our average pass rates for each section of the CPA exam over the past five years have been in the 90 percentile range. A PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting is also available form the University of Kentucky's Gatton college of Business and Economics.

The MS in Economics is designed to introduce students to graduate-level study in economics. The MS in Economics provides a strong foundation in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, in addition to allowing students to pursue some electives in their fields of interest. The degree is often earned en passant to a Ph.D. in Economics or a related field; we do not typically admit students seeking a terminal master’s degree, although there may be exceptions (part-time students, international exchange students, or other special cases). If your ultimate goal is a Ph.D., you should apply directly to the Ph.D. program regardless of whether you already have a master’s degree.

Since its inception in the 1960s, the graduate program has been nationally recognized as a leader in applied anthropology. We define applied anthropology as research with practical application and impact, but anchored in a rigorous foundation in anthropological theory and method, whether from socio-cultural, bio-cultural, medical, or archaeological perspectives. With grounding in core anthropological theory and method, we train our students to be skilled researchers who can traverse both academic and non-academic settings, bringing to their research a sound intellectual base, and skills for application and practice.

Students in the Biology Graduate Program are trained to become practicing professionals in a wide array of possible career paths, including academic positions, industry, government, or are prepared to take on additional schooling. The program achieves this through a combination of formal course work, research experience, and activities that foster the communication of scientific ideas. The specfic training depends on the degree program and we offer three; the Ph.D., the research or thesis Masters', and the non-thesis or coursework Master's. All students must complete a set of requirements outlined by the Graduate School at the University of Kentucky and the Biology Graduate Program.

The University of Kentucky School of Music is internationally recognized for excellence in performance, music education and research in music. For over 100 years, the School has helped musicians prepare for careers as performers, educators, researchers, and a wide array of leadership positions both in and outside of the field of music. More than 400 students benefit from world-class teaching and the broad academic offerings of a major university. Students have abundant opportunities to participate in prestigious ensembles – from orchestras to choirs to the Wildcat Marching Band – that perform throughout the U.S. and the world.

The graduate program in Biochemistry is able to accommodate students with diverse backgrounds and wide ranges of interests. Students with undergraduate degrees in the biological, biochemical, or physical sciences who have a strong desire to pursue a research career in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and structural biology are encouraged to apply. Academic preparation in calculus, physics, biology, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry is recommended. Entry to the program is through the Integrated Biomedical Sciences program.

Traditional biostatistics programs train students to analyze biomedical data, with a heavy focus on data arising from clinical trials. Traditional epidemiology programs focus on the study of observational data and secondary data. Our symbiotic relationship between the departments of Biostatistics and Epidemiology provides the opportunity to train students to work as "team-scientists" to fill an emerging workforce gap in the intersection of these two fields. The MSBST teaches candidates traditional biostatistics methodology, prepares them to work alongside epidemiologists and other subject-matter experts, and provides the unique skills to work with epidemiological data such as healthcare data, case reports, and more. Furthermore, our educational opportunities will train students to work in the emerging field of health data science.

Ranked as one of the best Ph.D. programs in the nation and one of the top-ranked programs at UK, the Graduate Program in Communication offers the only doctoral communication program in the Commonwealth. The National Research Council’s 2010 report ranks the University of Kentucky’s College of Communications and Information Studies PhD program as high as seventh among the 83 Communication doctoral programs in the nation.

Applicants seeking admission to a graduate program in Aerospace Engineering as regular students must have been awarded a baccalaureate degree. Admission to the Aerospace Engineering graduate programs normally requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering (not necessarily in aerospace engineering), a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0/4.0 or 70% on all graduate and undergraduate works. An undergraduate degree in mathematics, chemistry or physics combined with a strong interest in engineering topics may be suitable preparation when certain required undergraduate courses are taken. Exceptions to these requirements may be made if other persuasive evidence indicating the student’s potential of success is available.

Art Education provides students with a strong foundation in art studio and art history, along with theory and practice of art education. The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Art Education provides in-service training, professional development, and consultation services to the schools of Fayette County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Candidates admitted to the graduate program in Art Education are expected to have completed course work equivalent to an undergraduate major in Art Education (in no case less than 18 hours in Art Education and Education, 12 hours in Art History, and 18 hours in Art Studio).

Often considered the oldest practitioners within engineering, the intellectual ancestors of civil engineers have been around since the first cities were built by humans 10,000 years ago. Fast forward to the 18th century, when the development of the modern civil engineering profession led directly to many conveniences we enjoy every day. Civil engineering is part of our daily lives.

The Masters of Data Science program at University of Kentucky is administered jointly by three complementary programs: Computer Science, Biostatistics and Institute of Biomedical Informatics. It offers unique training opportunities and prepares students with critical data science skills in both technical and application domains - skills that make them highly sought after by academic, research, industrial and government organizations.

The Department of Computer Science offers programs of study leading to the Master of Science in Computer Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Admission to these programs is highly competitive and based upon academic record, and letters of recommendation. It is strongly suggested that applicants present evidence of mathematical maturity as well as competence in computer science. The Master of Science (MS) in Criminal Justice provides a comprehensive understanding of the integration of theory, policy, and research within leadership and administrative roles in criminal justice systems. The MS cultivates critical thinking in examining the synthesis of social and legal systems, structures, and institutions in implementing and evaluating outcomes. UK’s program is unique in emphasizing the application of perceptual frameworks, articulating the importance of culturally relevant practice, and connecting critical examination and succinct, meaningful communication. UK emphasizes transdisciplinary processes and problem solving to ensure that graduates develop job-ready, employability skills to address and implement best practices in criminal justice settings.

The Educational Psychology program focuses on preparing scholars who have strong theoretical, conceptual, and practical ties to education and psychology and who possess exceptional skills in the areas of measurement, statistics, assessment, and research methodology. The program’s focus on social justice includes the scientific consideration of the multiple intrapersonal, interpersonal, and structural factors that influence individuals’ cognition, affect, and behavior in diverse contexts.
