A five year part-time training, leading to a Diploma and MSc degree in Humanistic Psychotherapy and a qualification to practice as a psychotherapist, together with an optional Diploma in Humanistic Counselling. Due to the popularity of our Diploma in Humanistic Counselling Diploma with BSc (Hons) Degree, and as a result of student feedback, we have decided to offer a further Humanistic training course, namely a Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapy, together with an MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy. As with all of our psychotherapy trainings, the last three years of this five year programme, contribute to the award of an MSc.

This comprehensive programme in Systemic Psychotherapy/Family Therapy has particular relevance for health, social services, education, and related disciplines. This programme, which is recognised as one of Ireland's foremost psychotherapy training courses, has been running, subject to review and revision, for twenty-five years.

A part-time course running one weekend per month over a 10 unit year and leading to a Master’s of Science (MSc) qualification in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy and Application. On successful graduation, along with the MSc in Psychotherapy, the course confers individual registration with the UKCP as a psychotherapist. This course aims to support students to develop as sophisticated person-centred psychotherapists, familiar with issues and approaches used in a variety of settings where contemporary therapeutic work is evolving and to be able to understand different theoretical approaches that follow the relational turn in the psychotherapy field.

The certificate in therapeutic skills (or equivalent) is a requirement for starting any of our MSc courses at Metanoia. A part-time training leading to a Diploma and MSc degree in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, which will provide you with automatic registration with UKCP and a qualification to practice as a psychotherapist, with additional optional Diploma in TA Psychotherapeutic Counselling route available from the third year of training.

Our goal in the training of psychotherapists in the master in Gestalt psychotherapy is to give them those tools and knowledge necessary through their own personal growth, to develop the ability to accompany others in their internal processes in a warm and effective way. We are proudly the only institution nationwide that exclusively trains psychologists as Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy.

This programme offers post-graduate training in Gestalt Psychotherapy and will provide you with a strong knowledge base and the expertise to practice as a Gestalt psychotherapist with a broad range of clients in a variety of settings. The total length of this programme is five years (part-time) and runs for one weekend a month over ten months for the first four years, followed by an examination module.

We start from the position that psychotherapy is the considered and intentional use of a relationship, grounded in the therapeutic alliance, in the service of the goals of the client. We view the psychotherapeutic relationship as a co-constructed endeavour in which both the client and the therapist are active partners. Given the centrality of the intentional use of the relationship and of the self of the psychotherapist in contributing to successful outcomes, we put emphasis on self-reflective practice, self-understanding, interpersonal encounter and a sensitivity to attunement, mis-attunement and repair in maintaining an effective therapeutic relationship. By co-creating and maintaining a clearly formulated and secure therapeutic alliance, practitioner and client alike are enabled to focus upon complex interpersonal and intrapersonal issues.
