We have designed a special course in the Field of Nursing. Specialized courses comprise of cancer nursing, women’s health nursing, child nursing, nursing management, geriatric nursing, mental health nursing and chronic care nursing, and community care. Health problems and liver problems have become diversified and complicated, and consequently, the environment surrounding nursing has changed dramatically. In this field, we expect the students to acquire the ability to conduct theoretical research for nursing practices as well as practical capabilities in nursing. We also emphasize the ability to solve problems in terms of the QOL of the people with complex nursing problems at all levels of health, i.e. from the period of disease prevention, recovery, and up to the end-stage diseases.

The philosophy of the MSc in Nursing programme is based on the belief that nursing is an interactive, caring process, and that nurses must constantly consolidate their practice with education. In so doing, the nurse as an individual and a member of the healthcare team enhances their professionalism through a greater appreciation of patient-centric care.

The degree fields in the Master’s program are Fundamental Sciences for Nursing, Synthetic Nursing, Clinical Nursing, Extensive Nursing, and Women’s Health & Midwifery, each composed of one to three study areas. Research courses are offered in each specialty. Certified Nurse Specialist courses (Cancer Nursing, Family Health Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing) are offered in the study areas of Adult Nursing (Chronic), Child Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing. A Certified Nurse Administrator course is offered in Nursing Administration, and an Advanced Practice course is offered in Women’s Health & Midwifery. The Master’s program is designed to develop outstanding nursing researchers and educators, while also training professionals who have advanced knowledge and practical skills who can take on leading roles in nursing practice.

National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences (NTUNHS) is known for having the best degree programs in nursing and healthcare education in Taiwan and Asia. The MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice is a full-time, semesterized program delivered at the Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), College of Nursing. It will run over four semesters incorporating lectures, clinical skills education, and clinical practicums.

Core courses include Nursing Theory, Research Methodology, Advanced Applied Biostatistics. Professional course: Health Assessment for Advanced Practice Nursing, Transcultural Nursing I,Transcultural Nursing II, Transcultural Nursing Field Experience; Elective courses; and thesis.

Graduate School of Nursing will foster researchers and educators who will develop nursing science. Each course has the ability to carry out activities such as outstanding nursing practice in the field of nursing, education for nurses, consultation with care providers, coordination of stakeholders, research in practice, and ethical coordination. The Graduate School of Nursing aims to develop nursing experts and educators with advanced levels of knowledge and capabilities, who can contribute to the development and promotion of healthcare and human welfare, as well as progress in nursing, both in local and global communities. Nursing education with research ability by further deepening the specialized knowledge and abilities acquired in undergraduate education regarding nursing science and nursing practice and acquiring the ability to set research subjects and develop research activities by oneself. The purpose is to train nurses who play a central role in supporting nursing practice.

Public health nursing is an independent nursing occupation in Japan. All public health nurses (PHNs) are educated as nurses and public health nurses and have licensure as a registered nurse and separate licensure as a PHN. The minimum length of education and training required to receive licensure in Japan is three years for nurses and one year for PHNs. There are various PHN educational programs in Japan, such as graduate school Master’s courses; undergraduate courses; junior college non-degree courses; four-year special training college courses for nurses and PHNs; and one-year PHN schools. Our faculty believes that PHNs should be educated and trained at the graduate level to improve the quality of their practice, so OUNHS was the first school in Japan to establish a Master’s degree PHN course in 2011.

The Master of Science in Nursing Midwifery is a two-year full-time program. The program is designed to prepare graduates to perform advanced nursing roles in ethical decision-making, clinical practice, consulting, expert teaching and coaching, clinical leadership, collaboration, evidence-based practice, and research. The students are required to complete 28 credits of course work and a master’s level thesis of 6 credits in two academic years for full-time and 3 academic years for part-time. The student may only register for the thesis after completing 12 credits of coursework.

Midwifery is an independent nursing occupation in Japan. All midwives are educated as nurses and midwives and have licensure as a registered nurse and separate licensure as a midwife. The minimum length of education and training required to receive licensure in Japan is three years for nurses and one year for midwives. There are various midwifery education programs in Japan, such as graduate school Master’s courses; undergraduate courses; undergraduate non-degree programs; undergraduate special courses; junior college non-degree programs; and vocational schools. The current midwifery environment in Japan is characterized by the progression of our declining birthrate, the aging of expectant mothers, a lack of obstetricians, a decrease in parturient facilities, and a concurrent advancement of perinatal medicine and assisted reproductive technology. Therefore, midwives are required to possess advanced diagnostic and practical midwifery skills and the ability to collaborate with other medical professionals including obstetricians.
