The Master in Food Systems programme is developing top talent for the food sector, by training the leaders of the future. This is a cross-disciplinary programme with a global perspective. It provides students with evidence-based knowledge and a toolkit for conducting research, policy-making and fieldwork. Our goal is to give students leading competences in biomedical research so that they are well prepared for independent work in medical research and development. The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science, with a major in Biomedicine. Teaching takes place in a research environment at the Biomedical Research Centre in Lund and all teachers are also active researchers.

This programme is aimed at students who want to create innovative future foods and find solutions to health issues such as obesity or malnutrition. Students learn about the design and production of foods while preserving health benefits within food chemistry, food processing, surface and colloid chemistry, microbiology, nutrition, and food analysis. While aligning to market needs through a strong emphasis on engineering sciences and innovation, the programme uses links to local industry, which means some researchers have converted results into successful enterprises, such as Oatly, Optifreeze and Probi. Graduates have found jobs within the food industry, the public sector, at research institutes and PhD positions.

The programme provides specialisation and breadth in the field of psychology. The aim of the programme is to provide you with a Master’s degree firmly founded in scientific scholarship and knowledge of current theory and research in Psychology, and offering broad career opportunities. The Master’s programme is an excellent foundation for further research within different fields of psychology. Other common career options are within Research and Development (R&D), managing change or HR, communication or implementation, within different contexts e.g. Education, Healthcare, Social Policy, or other industries.

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree in Food Innovation and Product Design (FIPDes) is a two-year academic programme in the field of food science and product development offered through cooperation between five European universities. Graduates will be able to take on the huge challenges and opportunities in the sector of food innovation, product design and packaging. They will typically either start their own manufacturing or consulting business, find positions either in their country or in a national branch of a major international food brand, or they will return to academia as doctoral students within the food/innovation field.

This programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology and molecular biotechnology. The common basis is within molecular genetics, which is the discipline that explains how the information in the genes is expressed and how it can give rise to various traits in an organism. Emphasis is put on genetic mechanisms underlying disease, genetic mapping, molecular genetic techniques and diagnostic methods. Training in entrepreneurship and processes of innovation and commercialisation in the molecular biotechnology field provides a fundamental base for careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. A majority of the graduated students continue with PhD studies, often within the biomedical research field.

This programme is one of few with a broad approach including the entire pharmaceutical process; from discovery and identification of active substance to development and production of the final drug. Students learn through authentic industrial development scenarios with emphasis on laboratory practice and project-based learning. They have access to excellent lab facilities, key equipment utilised within the pharma industry and industry collaboration opportunities for research. Graduates might start as an organic or analytical chemist, as a biochemist developing new biological pharmaceutical substances, as formulators of new drug products, at positions in the quality assurance field or may conduct further specialised studies as PhD students.
