The Department of Biology and Biotechnology offers a Course for a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics. This 2-year second-level degree (Biology class) is an intensive, full-time graduate program entirely taught in English and designed for graduates at the BA level who are seeking a qualification in advanced areas of Biology, with special attention to Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Biochemistry.

The program promotes excellence and educates students on the significant issues in Medical Genetics. The challenging curricula includes mandatory taught courses which cover the main aspects of Medical Genetics and a number of elective courses enabling students to broaden their knowledge on other fields of Medical Genetics. The MSc Research or Library Projects on various aspects of Medical Genetics are conducted in the state-of-the-art Departments and Clinics of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING).

In the Master's Programme in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences you will acquire knowledge and skills in modern genetics and molecular biosciences. You can specialise in Biochemistry and Structural Biology, Cell and Developmental Biology, Genetics and Genomics or Molecular Analytical Health Biosciences.

The program objectives are to train students to become researchers in the field of genetics and breeding and eventually become independent plants and animal breeders, based on their in-depth genetic understanding.

The progress of all master's candidates is monitored biannually by the supervisor and the postgraduate coordinator. A candidate's study may be terminated if the progress is unsatisfactory or if the candidate is unable to finish his/her studies during the prescribed period.

The Master of Science (MSc) is a two-year degree which encompasses both coursework and research. The first year involves mainly coursework and preliminary research preparation. Students will have the opportunity to contribute to existing fields of research, or to begin to develop new areas.

The Applied Conservation Genetics with Wildlife Forensics (Online Learning) within conservation science, there is increasing recognition of the value of genetic data to support management decisions. However, scientists and managers with the skills and knowledge to apply population genetic theory to conservation practice are lacking. Within this arena, wildlife forensics is an exciting new field that is attracting increasing global attention in the fight against the illegal wildlife trade.

Through the programme in Evolutionary Biology, you will acquire an explicit evolutionary biological perspective in the study of nature and develop your understanding of patterns and processes from the cellular to the ecosystem level.

The mission of the Postgraduate Program "Cell and Gene Therapies" is to provide excellent postgraduate-level education and specialization to scientists. The aim is to enable them to adopt and respond to new challenges presented by technological advancements in medical science. This involves a focus on personalized medicine and the integration of automation technology in cell and gene therapies, which are rapidly expanding worldwide.

Nature and nurture: how do they interact and correlate? Is health and wellbeing in our genes or is the environment the most important source of differences between people? And can we use DNA to predict our health? Both twin studies and molecular genetic studies have highlighted the influence of our genetic code on behavior and health. To adequately understand and influence behavior and health, we need to increase our knowledge of the way our genes play their part, by themselves and when interacting with our environment.

MSc Molecular Biology & Human Genetics is a specialization program aimed at providing excellent opportunities for the students to take off in a promising career in the field of medical research and diagnostics.

To train personnel capable of teaching theoretical-practical courses at the bachelor's level in the field of Genetics and Molecular Biology, as well as participating effectively in carrying out scientific research work. Prepare students who are interested in continuing towards a career in scientific or technological research within a doctoral program in Genetics and Molecular Biology or in a field related to it.

This programme connects fundamental research with its applications and integrates genetics, gene technology, cell biology, molecular biology and molecular biotechnology. The common basis is within molecular genetics, which is the discipline that explains how the information in the genes is expressed and how it can give rise to various traits in an organism. Emphasis is put on genetic mechanisms underlying disease, genetic mapping, molecular genetic techniques and diagnostic methods. Training in entrepreneurship and processes of innovation and commercialisation in the molecular biotechnology field provides a fundamental base for careers in biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. A majority of the graduated students continue with PhD studies, often within the biomedical research field.

Over the last few years, there has been an extraordinary boom of genetics and molecular biology, two disciplines that have become progressively integrated to currently embody the core of modern biology. They are jointly used to investigate and understand the genetic-molecular bases governing the implementation of complex biological processes, such as cell development and differentiation both in animal and plant systems.

The Department of Genetics is one of six Basic Science departments at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). The Genetics Department is located on the sixth floor of the Clinical Sciences Research Building, .a state-of-the-art research facility. The Department of Genetics offers a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Genetics and participates in the Masters of Biomedical Sciences program.
