6 MSc Degree Programs in Chile

The program lasts 3 semesters, which will be divided into two teaching periods, offered in Santiago de Chile and one semester for the preparation of the thesis. The two academic periods consist of compulsory and optional modules, which must be approved before starting the thesis work. In the third semester, the thesis must be elaborated. The compulsory modules will take place at the Heidelberg Center for Latin America and will be taught by professors from the University of Heidelberg, the Catholic University, and the University of Chile. While the elective modules are part of the programs offered by the UC and the U of Chile respectively. The courses will be taught in Spanish or English. Participants can also take free German courses if they so wish.

This Master's program is the first offered in Chilean-Argentine Patagonia (south of Region X) and allows meeting the needs of the southern academic and professional community, contributing to the sustainable development of the region and stimulating basic science programs and applied in the most extensive territory of Chile: Magallanes and Chilean Antarctic Province. To meet the general objective of management and sustainable use of resources, the Master's program considers: 1) Include teaching and research in biological conservation in order to reinforce environmental, social, and economic sustainability in biological resource management practices. 2) Study of terrestrial ecosystems because they present essential ecological and biogeographic interrelationships with Antarctic and subantarctic ecosystems. Participation of academics from various disciplines associated with a set of national and international universities and scientific institutions that have competence in the area of ​​sustainable management for the training of researchers who contribute to the knowledge of southern biodiversity, its valuation and conservation, In this way, the training of a specialist in the area of ​​Management and Conservation of Natural Resources in Subantarctic Environments with a high scientific level preparation, capable of teaching and conducting research in the broad field of biological diversity, its ecological functions are sought. and its economic value under management and conservation plans that promote environmental and economic sustainability. This will allow technical advice to state or private organizations.

To train a graduate with a specialization in sustainable habitat and energy efficiency in the built environment, with the knowledge and skills to integrate the climate, energy, and well-being of people as the foundation of project and research development. Able to apply solid knowledge, generated from research, in the design, integration, analysis, and energy-environmental evaluation of projects for the benefit of sustainable development and quality of life at the national and international level.

Contribute to the training and development of advanced human capital, in public health sciences, to optimize the health of the population from the field of the directive and professional management. Generate research, to provide interdisciplinary and intersectoral responses to the priority health problems of the population.

The Magister in Social Sciences, Heritage Mention or Social Intervention Mention of the University of Magallanes, is a Postgraduate Program that provides academic training oriented to the sociocultural aspects of the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica. Phenomena such as early settlement, cross-border migrations, cultural and natural heritage, plus the configuration of local social identities, among other manifestations that are relevant for scientific research in Social Sciences, are studied. This program integrates the study of heritage and social intervention processes, from a multi-disciplinary perspective of fundamental areas of the Social Sciences, such as anthropology, archeology, sociology, history, economics, and social work.
