Biotechnology is undoubtedly important for its implications in various sectors of everyday life, utilizing cellular and bio-molecular processes that pave the way for the generation of cutting-edge new technologies and products that help improve life and nature in general. In particular, Biotechnology is the technology that uses living microorganisms to develop or create different products. Examples include the use of yeast in cheese and bread making, and the use of viral vectors for the creation of human vaccines (ie SARS-CoV-2 vaccine). Overall, recent advances in Biotechnology had a positive impact on the production of healthy food, improvement of the medical sector, reducing the world’s environmental footprint, and reducing the rate of infectious diseases. As a result, Biotechnology is widely considered to be the engine of the global economy in the 21st century.

The MSc in Bioeconomy: Biotechnology and Law Programme is being offered by the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Economics of the University Center of International Programmes of Studies of the International Hellenic University.

The MSc Biotechnology programme provides students with the opportunity to develop an advanced theoretical knowledge, understanding, and practical experience of modern molecular and systems biology approaches to emerging biotechnologies.

The Applied Biotechnology MSc covers modern molecular biology techniques and industrial bioprocesses. You’ll gain hands-on experience with pilot-scale fermenters and advanced monitoring systems while studying bioactive compounds, microbial physiology, fermentation technology, and bioreactor types, preparing for careers in biotech industries.

The primary purpose of the MSc in Biotechnology is to provide students with specialized advanced education and training while meeting the requirements of a specific research component so that students can master the required experimental and technological skills and necessary fieldwork competencies such as innovation, decision-making, strategic thinking, and organizational skills.

M.Sc. in Biotechnology Engineering invests continual efforts in providing students with hands-on experience in laboratory classes that develop skills and experience in engineering in three major clusters: Medical Biotechnology, Nanobiotechnology, Energy, and Environmental Biotechnology. The broad topics of research covered by BTE include microbiology, biochemistry, genetic engineering, renewable energy, nutraceuticals, medical sciences, biological drugs, tissue engineering, stem cells, and synthetic biology.
